I got news for you guys, I bet Jiffy Lube is not the only joint that does this. I will bet you some good money that other fix-it places do the same exact thing.

Do as much car work yourself as you can if you want it done right; if you can't, go to the local guys, less chance of getting stiffed. :)

looks like this guy was stiffed by the lube too
They're a big chain, they're bound to have multiple incidents. I think it's hit and miss no matter where you go.

what was it, 9 out 14, surely they can do better. And having an asshat DM like that is stupid.

The only thing Jiffy Lube should be used for is OIL CHANGES (if that). People who go in there and get sucked into transmission flushes and whatchyamacallit rebuilds are suckers.

I went to a Jiffy Lube out here at school and got my oil changed yada yada. Few months/3k miles later I take it to another Jiffy Lube in my home town, and they tell me the oil plug was barely screwed in. That a good hard bump could have knocked it out, and wanted to know where I got it serviced before, I told them another Jiffy Lube and they were quite surprised. Needless to say I don't touch Jiffy Lube with a 10 foot pole anymore and I warn everyone I know to stay away.

My brother manages a Jiffy Lube and if the guys in his store pulled something like that they would be looking for new jobs immediately.

This doesn?t surprise me. I had my transmission replaced last year and took my car into Jiffy lube about 3 thousand miles later. The stupid idiots suggested I have the transmission flushed because the fluid was ?very dirty?. The guy looked surprised and stuttered a lot when I told him that couldn?t be possible because the transmission was brand new. I declined and have never returned since then.

5 out of 9 places under the same corrupt district manager that sold add-on services to the oil change didn't do the add-on services.

Simple solution: use them for the oil change and say no to everything else. Its like if you went to McDonald's for a cheap burger and they tried to sell you $100 worth of fries, shakes, and chicken sandwiches - you just simply say no because you don't need it, didn't want it, and didn't come into the store for it. Take your cheap burger and be happy.

Just got my oil changed at Jiffy Lube today because of this thread. They tried to sell me a tire rotation because it had been 10,000 miles since my tires were installed. I said no. I'll get them rotated when I do a whole routine maintanence service at 60,000 miles. They didn't even attempt to sell me anything else and I was out of there a happy customer.

I haven't gone to any sort of quick change type oil place since the ball sacks at Jiffy Lube put the wrong oil filter on my brother's car... it fell off somewhere on his 40 mile daily commute leaving him stranded on the highway. Then they put up a fight about how it wasn't their fault and he eventually had to pay a lawyer to write a letter to their legal department. In the end, they replaced the engine in the car with one that has been clunky sounding ever since, and the place they "required" him to take it to for replacement was a bunch of pricks about the whole thing. The straw was that they required another letter from the lawyer to get them to cover the rental car bill.

The only thing that really sucks is that I no longer get quality service where they are kind enough to remind me that I need a radiator flush with every 3000 miles I put on my car. Or the kind of service where they drag me into their bays to show me the air filter that I just put on my car instead of just changing the damn oil and letting me get on my way.

My wife started taking the Volvo to WalMart when we were separated. Know what? They've NEVER screwed up. Even so, I always check everything when she takes it there, and I made her start taking Mann filters with her. They don't give a discount (but $12 is still cheap) but I know I'm getting a good filter instead of the generic white thing they'll put on there otherwise.

I'm not worried about oil quality... The Volvo gets it done every 2-3k miles. Even crap oil is fine in that situation.

I've never gotten anything other than oil, and an air filter once at a place like that.

JiffyLube is good for getting cars to pass smog when it techincally wouldn't. :) Since it's usually staffed by kids you can slip them a $20 and you pass, to get around the sniffers thay just put the sniffer about 5 feet from the pipe.

True. Jiffy Lube just gets more national attention due to their size.
And 90% of the JL's busted are franchises, the corporate (Shell) stores are run much better. It you want to use Kiffy - make sure it's a corporate store.

thats one of the dumbest things i've ever heard. i have some insight into this subject and the corporate stores are the same as all the others. the problem is that oil change places in general have to hire employees that are morons, its the nature of the beast. not a lot of college grads or other driven people working there.

hah jiffy lube is a joke. I change my oil usually and I use VW OEM Mahle oil filter. These filters are made in Germany and the only place I can buy them is either the dealerships or VW enthusiast websites. Anyways one time I couldnt change oil by myself cuz I was in a rush so I took it to Jiffy Lube. I asked them what kinda filter they use and they listed Fram, STP, and Valvoline. Naturally I went with valvoline.

Well next time when I went to change my oil, what do I find? A Mahle oil filter. Those bastards

I didn't read through the thread, but I don't like that place either. I got a coupon as a result of a class-action suit they lost a while back. Something about overcharging. Then they complained when I brought that coupon in to use it. They wouldn't let me use it with their current "promotion" (apparently they learned nothing from the lawsuit). :|
I hate 'em and I won't go back.
