It was such a long time (two years) between when the computer was stolen and when he gained access to it, you gotta wonder if that's even the guy who stole it. It's entirely possible that the computer had changed hands quite a few times since then and the guy who bought it didn't even steal it or realize it was stolen property.

If he stole the computer or knowingly bought stolen property, though, have absolutely no sympathy for the guy.

I already did a couple days ago when I first read about this. It's entirely possible the guy bought the computer from someone else without even realizing it was stolen. If so, gathering all that info on an innocent guy and posting it for the public to see is really, really lame. And posting the nudes pictures of those women he had been talking with is seriously out of line, they had absolutely nothing to do with the guy's stolen computer.

I really don't think someone would just happen to buy a computer loaded with files off the street...

Oh wow, I know that guy. He goes by "Zoz" (as it says in the text). He was a GRT (like an RA) at Senior House/Haus (a dormitory) at MIT when I lived there. Though I'm pretty sure this wasn't stolen out of his room in that dorm.

hilarious :D

Maybe he bought it on eBay or something, didn't even know it still came with a bunch of files until he got it. I'd think if you received a computer with a ton of personal files still left it might send up some red flags, but doesn't necessarily mean it was stolen either, could just mean the previous owner was too lazy/computer illiterate to wipe their data. It definitely happens.

Not saying the guy is innocent. I just think this was going way too far without even being sure of his guilt. I was kind of hoping the guy would elaborate on things once he got the police involved (what if anything did police charge the guy for, did the charges hold up in court or was he found innocent, etc.) but the presentation was really sparse on those kind of details.
