the reason they're pissed is that the mexicans who fought for texas independence got screwed and never get remembered. its not a new twist, its what actually happened and then was covered up by a bunch of racist rednecks.

San Antonio, Texas is an odd place.

San Antonio is where a group Americans who - even though they lost the battle - dealt such a brutal blow to the Mexican Army, that they never recovered. San Antonio is all about where the Mexicans got their asses kicked in large numbers, and where Texas was born.

But today, San Antonio is like 90% Mexican. When I was down there, the only white people I saw were tourists. It must be rather painful for these Mexicans to keep tell tourists about the wonders of David Bowie, who probably ripped said Mexican's great grand father a new asshole. It's not surprising they've started altering the history down there to match with the demographic shift in Texas. History is written by the victors, and it seems to me that in Texas, Mexicans are now the victors because they have displaced the white Americans down there.

When I was down there, they kept stressing that Mexicans fought on both sides. However, on inspection of the commemorative plaque inside the Alamo, I only saw a couple of Spanish sounding names on there. For all intents and purposes it *was* a fight based on ethnicity. The few Mexicans that fought with the Texans were probably anglo Spaniard types (i.e. white guys), instead of the classic Aztek descended Mexican.

Silly Texans. What exactly did y'all rednecks think was going to happen if you didn't police your borders? Quit whining to the rest of us.

Actually I would have to say San Antonio is largely hispanic, not Mexican. There is a large influx of Mexican tourist around Easter when Mexico turns the lights off and everyone comes north for a shopping spree.

The demographics of Texas really has not changed a great deal. South Texas has been heavily hispanic for a long time, this is nothing new.

Or maybe you just had a history class that sucked?

Where do these Hispanics in south Texas come from, if not from Mexico?

Man I haven't talked about the Alamo since around the 5th grade and I don't think 5th grade kids are going to start an anti-mexican movement in Texas.I don't see the big deal in trying to change things around in order to please certain groups just leave it how it has been.
Typical liberal response...

I don't see the big deal, but let's do it anyway...

I think he meant to leave things alone and not change them.

Well most of them came from Mexico, 150 years ago when Texas was Mexico. Yes their is a constant flow of immigrants, both legal and illegal, but once you become a citizen, are you still a Mexican?

OK, I misunderstood you.
I thought you meant Guatemala/Hispanic vs. Mexican/Hispanic.
Of course anyone who is a citizen is an American.

part 1. I don't see the big deal in doing it
just leave it how it has been.
part 2. but let's not do anything rash

You can't have it both ways...
I still don't think that's what he meant, but I guess it's asinine for me to sit here and try to read someone elses mind.

Allow me to explain what he meant because I'm quite good at reading minds. He thinks its stupid that some people make a "big deal" out of rewriting history in order to in their eyes not offend some specific group and doesn't understand why they wish to do so. He also implies that history should be left alone as a record of what actually happened, not "tweaked" by the tool of political correctness. Clear now?

It's time to tell these people that don't agree with history to go back in time and change it. I get offended when people get offended over what has happened in the past. Too freaking bad. Time to "grow some skin and get over it".

When are they going to stop speaking Spanish which the white european Spaniard Conquistadors forced on them in liu of their Myan and Indian dialects?? Seems like they would want to speak their native language???

"There is only one way to teach Texas history and that's Texas history," said Dan Stein, executive director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform. "Now, if you're going to teach Mex history or you're going to teach some other country's history, that's fine. But Texas history is Texas history."

Damn straight! History should be told how it happened. If some historic events are embarrasing to some groups of people, it doesn't mean that it should be swept under the rug! Political correctness is going a bit too far! What next? Can't teach about Winter War in Finland 'cause it "might offend those of Russian heritage"?

There is nothing wrong with recognizing the history of Texas, including the Alamo. If it is offensive to Hispanics, they can move to El Paso or back across the border . . . . . 😀

I'm not sure I'm following this:
"If you teach young people who have allegiances not only to the United States but to Mexico that Texas is stolen, you could be planting the seeds of a separatist movement 30 years from now or sooner," he said.
Texas was stolen as was most of the southwestern states. Who's rewriting history here.

Forget the Alamo! (shh, we might offend someone..)

From the article:

"There is only one way to teach Texas history and that's Texas history," said Dan Stein, executive director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform. "Now, if you're going to teach Mex history or you're going to teach some other country's history, that's fine. But Texas history is Texas history."

That says it all.

The Holocaust?

It's offensive to Nazi's and Germany, you know you can't offend them

The day we start rewriting history is the day hell on earth begins. I'm sick and tired of all this political correctness bullshit
