I can't believe that you, a seemingly intelligent (albeit naive) young woman, cannot understand that dark colors reflect less light and thus are more difficult to see at night.
The issue is that dark people are more difficult to see at night, all else being equal. They really need to wear bright/flashing clothing so that the people who drive cars can see them easier.
Really I'm all about equality here.
