Don't have deed to house. How to get copy?

JEDI

Lifer
Long story short:

Paid off house in NYC 7yrs ago ago.
This week I received junk mail from a company saying they can get me a copy of the deed to my house for $100.

That got me thinking "Where is the deed to my house?" I looked, but i can't find it. 🙁 :Q

So how do i get a copy of the deed to my house? (Location: Brooklyn, NY)

In CA you would go to the County Clerk/Recorder and a copy of the deed *should* be a nominal fee, well under $100 I would bet.

As MadAmos stated a county recorder should have copies of all deeds but your mortgage company should have have sent you the original once your house was paid off. Sometimes the deeds are available to view/print online but this varies from county to county even though it is public info. At the county recorder you should be able to get copies for about $.25/page so unless you live on a farm and have a lengthy legal description, it should cost you under $1.00.

Can I interest you in investing in the Brooklyn Bridge? You could own the whole thing, for an unheard of price! For a limited time only, so act fast.
