Seems like your new statement is contradicting the clear implication of the statement in the prior.

If there are safe-ish medication for bipolar medication then she probably should have been taking them. And she deserves to be disparaged for "being off her meds".

Because a sedative doesn't treat bipolar? Just makes people too drowsy to do anything. A bit of a different in medications.

But you said:
There is some safe-ish medication that a bipolar woman can take while pregnant that still helps and has little to zero effect on the baby. Routine monitoring helps too to minimize any risk.

You were clearly referencing bipolar medications, not sedatives. So since there are safe bipolar medications then she deserves to be disparaged for not taking them while pregnant, among other reasons, such as having another child while 2 of her previous children are under the care of her mother.

Safer doesn't mean completely safe, and I stipulated routine monitoring with her doctors while taking those safer medications. Considering her doctor was in Italy, it was easier to stop the medications for protection of the baby without the monitoring.

More information coming out today about this case:

1. The woman had a long history of mental illness in Italy, with a habit of not taking medications. She had had multiple previous children by multiple fathers (who had all disappeared) and all children had been taken by Italian child protection due to concerns over neglect and severe mental instability.

2. Due to repeated caesarean sections in the past (for other health issues), her uterus was scarred and she could not have given birth naturally without unacceptably high risk of death.

3. The hospital and local child services had tried to find a next of Kin in Italy who could take care of the child. However, even with the assistance of the Italian authorities, they could not find any friend or relative who would be capable of looking after a child.

4. Due to critical psychiatric illness requiring psychiatric intensive care, doctors recommended a course of strong anti-psychotic drugs. These are known to be harmful to the fetus, and as the pregnancy was late stage, and as a caesarean would be required anyway, a planned caesarian delivery was only safe option. The doctors presented a very clear and expert argument to the court, and the court ruled that the a caesarian birth was necessary and appropriate.

So rather then putting her back on her medication, they imprisoned her, drugged her and performed a serious operation on her to get her baby? Yeah, that makes sense.

1) It's not a prison. I've been in there.
2) a lot of anti psychotics are dangerous to take when pregnant
3) so you want her drugged but you don't want her drugged... What?
4) see the post a couple above this.

Sounds like they did the right thing. I hate these sensationalist head lines. It's usually the daily mail and it always turns out to be crap. "panic attack" lol
