Don't go see A History of Violence

purbeast0

No Lifer
I saw it Friday night and hoped it would be a good movie. It was just meh and was very graphic and had some hardcore sex scenes (w/out showing actual stuff). I think this is the only R rated movie i've ever seen the two main characters 69 in. It was just a slow movie where not much happens, and the only good parts in the movie really are the action parts mainly seen on the preview.

The Viggo guy from LOTR really sucks aside from the LOTR movies. First Hidalgo and now this crap.

Don't listen to him...he probably thinks the Power Rangers were great TV....

Don't mock the Rangers!!

Seriously, if you do they'll kill you!!!

Least it wasn't any of those other rangers that had a color devoted to them due to their race 😉...

Except maybe the white ranger, since he played the red one too..

Ummm.... it's 90% fresh overall and 94% fresh from the cream of the crop critics. Is it REALLY that bad? I'm reading the reviews, and they all sound very interesting. I hadn't even heard of this movie before, but now I want to see it.

Also, Viggo is a good actor. Crimson Tide came to mind, though his part was small.

I saw it and thought it was good. Two guys with me agreed, another one didn't like the pacing but that was kind of the point.

One person's opinion is just that, one person. 🙂 Now if you want to see a bad movie at the theaters, see Serenity.

Wait wait wait - from the previews I got the impression that the two main characters were Viggo Mortenson (who's name I probably spelled wrong) and Ed Harris.

Or do you mean Viggo and his wife?

My friend gave it a D+ and said he wanted to walk out after 20 mins. My roommate said the trailers are misleading and that it was extremely violent. He said it was still worth watching though.

Call me crazy, but the OP just made me want to see this flick even more. The director is a real talent by the way. I don't expect mainstream movie goers to get a full understanding of the plot and how it was shot.

Thanks for the info guys  Might go see this with the gf this weekend

if she doesnt like gory stuff, then don't go see it with her. its VERY VERY graphic.

i mean the movie doesn't suck completely or anything, it is just marketed COMPLETELY different than what it really is. Kind of how The Village was marketted to be a scary flick when it wasnt scary at all and was a completely different story.

I too did not understand the ending completey. But yea, the movie is just MUCH different than I expected it to be.

Its far from bad.

I agree it was very different than what I was expecting.

The only thing I don't get is all the people who say you have to think about stuff. I found everythig but the very end to be pretty cut and dry.

Its like the director made a point to take scenes that most movies only show limited parts of (the scenes with violence and the sex scenes) and go further with them.

I'm struggling to remember the 'gory stuff'. Can't say more without spoiling things but it wasn't that bad.

The ending is kind of unexpected but not hard to work out.

i guess graphic is the term then.

*SPOILER BELOW*

The part where he blows the dudes head in half they clearly show his head completely open.

When he breaks the dudes nose up into his brain its pretty graphic.

When Ed Harris takes the shotgun blast to the chest you see pieces of his body sitting on the chest of Viggo. That

*SPOILER END*

that kinda stuff doesnt bother me, but my GF was a lil disturbed. there were plenty of scenes where Viggo had blood splattered all over him.
