When you try again, if you're too afraid to put them in by hand (it's not that hard, you just drop them from about 2 inches above the surface of the oil), use the strainer you're using to fish them out to put them in. :)

My problem was that I didn't want the oil to splash and burn me. I've been burned by oil doing donuts at Wal-Mart, so I know it's not a plesant experience.

I think Azraele's next project should be deep-frying a turkey. There's a fire station nearby, right?

to me, donuts just aren't worth the effort. Most of it is cleanup. I hate deep frying cuz you have to can up the left over oil and dispose of it that way.
