How is this a story?

But this is something people care about.....

Holy crap, is that the girl he was talking about? Damn, I'd pound that shit into the ground, I don't care how many hockey players have been into it. Where have I seen her? I'm thinking 24?

You're probably thinking of "The Girl Next Door".

Both. I'd take that sloppy seconds, thanks.

I don't get it. Sure, it's not a particularly nice thing to say, but why should he be suspended for it? He hasn't violated any laws, or even done something dangerous or otherwise detrimental to anyone else. Essentially he's getting suspended for insulting someone?

The Dallas Stars would have suspended him if the NHL didn't. They don't want a guy who brings personal life-situations - especially about a person who isn't directly involved in the sport - representing their team. Avery hasn't done that before, but if any player were to do it - it'd be him. This isn't even playoff time where underhanded comments would be dished out (if at all). This was simply mean-spirited (to put it lightly) and strictly personal.

The League said the suspension was issued in accordance with the provisions of By-Law 17 and Article 6 of the NHL Constitution for conduct "detrimental to the League or game of hockey."

Hockey is just one of those sports where your own character and respect for other players comes first. It ain't basketball or football. The superstars in the league are usually the highest respected off the ice too. Even the fighters have respect for each other.

Yes, and she was host of Popular Mechanics For Kids 🙂 I would tap that (the adult grown up one you sicko) if I had the chance.

Asshole? Yes. Suspension worthy? No.

saying it in front of the camera is definitely suspension worthy. He is giving NHL a bad name. Never mind that his comment just represent him, the matter of the fact is it occurred during his work hours in the "office" is what made it suspension worthy.

Truthful? Yes.

And yeah, I have referred to an ex like that. We all say stupid things about ex GFs sometimes.

On camera? After asking if there is a camera on?

Holy Shit! I didn't know she was Cuthbert.

While it's a common phrase and probably not a reason for suspension, you still have to be an idiot to walk up, make sure there's a camera there, and then say it. Real tactful.

Don't forget Old School.

Wasn't Avery on the suspension block last season for a two-handed slash or something that broke some guy's leg?

The stupidest part of this whole saga is hearing the idiotic ESPN sportcenter anchors explain "Please be advised that you may find some language offensive in this clip" just before showing him say it on camera. It just reminded me why I hate ESPN so much.
