Don't buy Klipsch 4.1s! Save your money!

And buy a pair of Klipsch SB-2 bookshelf speakers instead! 😉 Seriously though.

I sold my Promedia 4.1s and bought some real speakers with the money I got from the sale. The speakers, Klipsch SB-2s, are so much better than the Promedias it's hard to believe. I've got them hooked up to an older Pioneer reciever, a VSX-3300 for those interested, which gets its signal from component audio cables outputted from my GameTheater sound card. Let me tel you, these babies pump! The quality of the sound is far superior to the Promedias which sound tinny and, simply put, small by comparison. Having listened to the SB-2s all day now, the Promedias sound like small speakers trying really hard to sound big, which I guess is exactly what they are. The SB-2s actually ARE big and the difference is incredible.

So, if any of you are thinking about getting "quality" computer speakers sometime soon, don't. You're wasting money. Buy a good set of bookshelf speakers, a decent receiver, and you'll be so much happier. Don't forget that real home theater equipment and speakers are so much more versatile than computer-only speakers, too. I couldn't be happier.

By the way... as far as loudness goes, there's no comparison. These suckers are crazy loud like the Promedias could only dream of. They don't even sound boomy! They rule!

i like my promedias too... but i agree with you completely, computer speakers will never match the quality of 'real' speakers. good call with the SB-2's... do you have a sub hooked up?

Yo,
I have $320 saved toward a set of Klipsch 5.1 Promedia computer speakers.

I don't expect my computer to sound equal to my stereo system. Just to sound reasonably good. I don't want to hook my PC into my home stereo system.

If someone thinks there's a better set of 5.1 computer speakers (one that does not require a separate receiver as mentioned above), do tell. Haven't bought the Klipsch speakers yet, so am open to suggestion.

Thanks,
PCM

No offense but it seems pretty obvious to me that a home audio receiver with speakers is a better-sounding setup. That said, for something with 5.1 capability and similar power, you are talking about a LOT more money and a lot less convenience (not to mention precious desk real estate). I think the total equation favors high-quality PC speakers like Promedias or Logitech Z560s.

i agree wholeheartedly. to buy a decent quality 5.1 home theater setup would be waaaaay expensive compared to computer speakers (and big). they are what they are....computer speakers. the logitech z560's are an awesome setup for the price.

Well lucky me, I never went the way of "computer speakers", and just started off with a receiver and a set of nice towers. Makes my apartment at school look very.....nice. 🙂 (I like it, at least). Towers were a gift from a family friend, so I got lucky. Plus, I just traded for a GTXP, so it's time for optical outs to my receiver, yay. ^_^

<< Oh please, my ACS56s 0wn other speakers 😉 >>

I used to own ACS56s before I ever got into more serious stuff like my home theater setup, they're not bad for computer speakers and I've heard Promedias in real life and ACS56's are just about as good.

But seriously Marty, you don't know what you're missing!
