Just cut out the RFID tag after you bought your clothes? No?

In an email, a Penny’s spokesman would not say how many jobs would be lost, saying instead this new check-out would actually free employees to help customers in other ways.

I would love to see this use become real world. Who cares if I am wearing an RFID tag that broadcasts out the sku of clothing. There is nothing private or personal stored there.

Well that's not true at all. How else is somebody going to *see* that you're wearing a pair of brand_name_here pants and a yellow brand_name_here shirt. Its not like these things are visible to the naked eye, or occasionally have tags showing.

Oh I forgot.... hmmm.. how about we push out apps to phones that make them play at max volume: "Brawndo! It is what you craaaaaave." Will that resolve the issue?

Most RFIDs have a GUID-type thing, do they not?

GUID is a function of the data put on the RFID chip not a required piece of information. Most of the ones I dealt did have that, just batch and data codes. The sku would be unique to that line but not that garment.

Why is this here?
Well i suppose because this is the security base and this could be considered a security issue! (A personal one)

Sticking the clothes IN A MICROWAVE for 10 seconds will destroy any RFID chip within

They LINK info acquired off your RFID tags to other database info ALL about YOU.

In PRINCIPLE, too much info all about YOU is getting into unknown hands for unknown uses.

The ostensible use is to profile you, in order to serve up adverts customized to the interests of your profile. The corrupted potential uses are manifold and bad. TMI too much info. Elimination of your personal privacy.

So... explain how this is at all different to me:

Picking up the pants.
Having the cashier scan the barcode.
Paying with my credit card.

Some how I think I have bigger things to worry about that JCPenny's knowing what pair of pant I bought.

Lol.

And it's not like your credit card info is linked to the RFID tag so I see no problem with it. I use the rfid technology at my local grocery stores all the time. In the city, almost every store has self-check out. It's actually more convenient at times.

Wow, this is a little scary!

I know, I know... Cut the tag out after purchase, but it would be nice to be told when you're being tracked :(

you're not being tracked... not any more than having a barcode on your cloths...

well it wont be long before optical scanners will be able to tell what anything is just by looking/sensing it.

this rfid stuff just eliminates the need for barcodes. i am ALL for it.
