Canadian Sprinter Donovan Bailey did not make it to the semi finals of the 100m sprint :( :( :( Apperently he's been suffering with the flu and was having trouble breathing.

I did not think that he would defend his Olympic gold from 96' because of his hamstring injury from 98' (although I could always hope). It looks like US sprinter Maurice Greene (sp?, I think) will likely capture the gold.

Hopefully in a week Donovan & Bruni can recover for the relays (I think that they are the defending champs from 96').

Cheers,
Aquaman

Bruni also made a half-assed showing, couldn't even make it to stage 2!

Maurice was totally a machine in his heat. He realized how he was going to win and just jogged through the last half hahaha.

That guy Also whats his name is goddamned rocket as well - you see his start? Gun went off he took off like a drag car. 10.04 and it looked to me like he also deliberately slacked off a tiny bit at the end because he didn't need to do any better. Final 100 m is gonna be cool to watch :)

BiB,

Actually, Bruni did get into the second round :) He was initially out but they checked the tapes and he was pushed up to the second round.

In the second round he was racing with Maurice Greene and he came in 2nd or 3rd in that heat.

So he is off to the semis........ but it does not look good.

Donovan has a very strong flu and his lungs are still filling with liquid. He said right after the race that he was at 20% breathing capacity and his throat burns like hell. I have the flu now and I certainly wouldn't want to run a 100m sprint like that. Bruni said after his race that he must get more treatment for his hamstring injury and get a new MRI. There's a 50/50 chance that he will run at all in the next round according to his own words. Aw well, injuries and illness are part of the game. Best of luck to both of them and to the remaining competitors.

BTW, is there a medical reason for Maurice Greene's strange walk and protruding tongue before and after heats. Maybe it's a ritual to psyche himself up or he was raised to walk that way. Looks very 'rap' to me. ;)

Wasn't Donovan Bailey that guy that false started twice at Atlanta and was DQed in the finals? Or am I thinking of another guy??? Anyways, Maurice is the cockiest bastard I've ever seen on the planet...but then again he can runs freaking fast, so I guess he has a right to be cocky.

Here in the UK the Olympic games is live all night on BBC1 and BBC2 and it's on during the day on either channel most of the time.. Not bad but it keeps me up at night:(

Donovan Bailey knew he was beat from about 30m out and he gave up, still he didn't get himself 2 false starts lick Linford Christie did in the last Olympic games!!

I've heard Bailey cry many times before making excuses. But this time I believe him. There's a very nasty flu going around southern Ontario right now and many people can't even drive to work let alone run. It's too bad, he's getting old and this is likely his last Olympics. I just wish that NBC would have recognized him as the world's fastest man in '96 instead of Michael Johnson...that's a fricken laughing stock. I sure hope NBC wasn't speaking on behalf of all Americans!

"Hey I'm in canada I ain't seeing any live feeds"

Just about anything you see after 6pm to 6am on CBC is a live
feed. I've seen Canada win all four of it's medals live and
it has really fsucked-up my sleeping patterns (I got up at 4pm
today). Thank god I'm a freelancer.

BTW, our fourth medal came in the Trampoline :p

What the hell kind of sport is trampoline? Pretty soon with all these stupid games they're adding to the Summer Olympics, I won't be surprised to see lawn bowling as a game to medal in.

Michael Johnson runs both the 200m and 400m, is expected to win both,
and I assume will also be a part of the U.S.'s 4x100m relay team
that is also likely to win.

Yeah, I thought Johnson and Greene both got injured in the 200m trials and aren't doing that event.

Yeah, Haircut's right. That's what it was - Johnson, even though he would almost certainly win the 200m if he were fit, is NOT running it because he got injured in the US team trials :(

Another errata: Bailey's career threatening injury was with his achilles tendon, not his hamstring.

It looks like it's gonna be Boldon and Greene duking it out. Regardless, I say, "Go Surin!" now that Bailey is out.

Surin, Boldon, Drummond and Greene are all going to meet in
the same semi-final later tonight in what appears on paper
to be the true 100m Sprint final. CBC will show that event
live for sure.

I think that Bolden is going to sneak by Greene :p He is a great friend of Greenes and if anyone can beat him I think it will be Bolden. I also think that Bruni will at best get bronze :( but I doubt it.

What a sad couple days for Canadian sprinters with both of
our giants falling to injury/illness at their last Olympics.
It will be a decade or longer until we produce another true
contender.

:(
