Donnie Darko Soundtrack -- recommendations (now a general singer/songwriter thread)

I just grabbed a copy of Gary Jules' Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets based on how good his cover of Mad World (Donnie Darko soundtrack) was. Just figured I'd recommend it to anyone here: it's got a Cat Stevens feeling to it, and is a VERY good CD.

You must listen to KMTT too 🙂 The cover really worked, just like when Tori Amos slowed down "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

I'll have to think about getting it when I order the new Peter Himmelman, Joanatha Brooke and Grant Lee Phillips CDs. It's been a good winter for singer-songwriter new releases.

FYI you might like Grant Lee Buffalo - Mighty Joe Moon, and Teddy Thompson's self-titled debut (www.AllMusic.com for more on them).

I'd highly recommend Josh Ritter if you like the singer/songwriter genre. He was very good opening up for Martin Sexton in concert. 😀

Yep, both Gary Jules and Josh Ritter are great. I have both of the GJ LPs and they're both fantastic (although they aren't available in stores... you have to buy them from his site). I saw Josh Ritter open for Joan Baez and he had some great songs. Reminds me a bit of Nick Drake.
