It's possible.. but I still think it's more of a 'clut classic' than a 'cinema classic'

would it be a cult classic in addition to being a clut classic?

how about a clit classic?

That's one of my favorite lines ever...if you have it on mp3 please send it to me, e-mail in profile.

edit: the forums hate gmail apparently, but it's gmail.com, not REMOVEgmail.

Ummm, it was an okay movie. It had quirky one liner comebacks, which teenagers and college kids thought were hilarious. The plot was supposed to convey the parodoxes and strange occurrances in time travelling. The movie was supposed to be trippy and beyond the norm which appealed to kids our age at the time, and the characters had a strange dark quirkiness to them which some people enjoyed. Camera angles were filmed just slightly off skew to give this sense of awkwardness, but I thought it was overdone. I thought the idea of people trying to analyze the movie's "nuances" and such was totally pedantic. It was a okay/good movie, but hardly the best movie out there.

The one liners were funny to an extent, but meh, I wouldn't go out and buy the DVD.

EXACTLY what I thought. At first I loved it, but when I re-watched it, I just thought "WTF?" As much as I hate to use this phrase, it's a really pseudo-intellectual movie.

A friend of mine was watching Donnie Darko while the Tour De France was on. I told him he could watch that movie anytime, but the TDF was something that he would regret missing.

He then went on to say, "Donnie Darko is the best movie of all time <or something to that effect>." I just gave him a blank stare. He then said, pseudo-jokingly, "You just don't have the mental capacity to understand the movie in its whole." So I decided to explain each part of the movie in detail and the flaws in the movie and even the use of camera tricks to that movie... I even quoted some of it. That shut him up. The Tour is what we watched mostly after that. ;) It definitely is a pseudo-intelliectual movie.

As much as I hate to admit it, I have to agree with you. For the past few years, I was all about singing the praises of this movie (you can look up old threads). But after watching it a couple of more times over the past few months, I gotta say you really did hit it spot on.

Still, I'd rather watch paint dry that a "famous" bicycle race. Maybe your friend actually has a sense of entertainment.

;) :p HAHAHAHA... He is a cyclist, too. He was flipping between them, but we kept missing the highlights.

But after this years debacle, I may just have to track other road races instead.

What does everyone thing of the directors cut vs the original?

I've only seen the directors cut but don't know if it's even worth watching the original.

Think of the Director's Cut as a dumb-downed, more mainstream version of the original.

I think the original didn't have the "hints" between scenes. You know the ones that tell you stuff about the tangent universe to clue you in on WTF is going on. I guess a lot of people didn't "get" the original or something.

Wow, if those little cut scenes from Sparrow's book weren't there, I'd have no idea WTF is happening LOL!
