The Q3 price drops and the Q3 new product launch are two different things. Although the launch will also push down prices.

Check out the E8500 at the Egg for <$200

Since it didn't happen this week, any idea as to when in the 3rd quarter the new product launches are most likely to take place?

The price drop on the dual cores just happened, and apparently the reduction on the quads will happen around August 10.

It's not Q3 yet... but we have this thread on the next page.

Intel uses calendar-year based quarters.

Q1 = Jan, Feb, Mar

Q2 = Apr, May, Jun

Q3 = Jul, Aug, Sep

Q4 = Oct, Nov, Dec

Even if we were talking Fiscal Year...don't different agencies/companies use different calendars for Fiscal Year?

For example I work for the Virginia Government..our FY2009 just began with July...so it is Q1 FY09 now

The US Government's FY09 begins in October

Correct, and all references to year/quarters that are fiscal-based, not calendar-based, are expected to note such, as you have with referencing FY2009 etc. If fiscal year is not noted you are supposed to assume it is calendar based (i.e. it is the default, unless otherwise noted)

Whoops. Sorry, I see firms talking about 2Q financial results all day long 😉 What I should have said was, there's plenty of time left - nobody ever claimed this would take effect on the first possible day. I'd been under the impression that the new prices were slated for August, not July.

I might just wait to get my new computer then if Q6600 prices will drop :]

Q6600 dropped $30 at the Egg, E8500 dropped to $189, E8400 is $150 in-store pickup @ Microcenter...we are starting to see the effects.....

I'd say the recession is also having a price affect. Newegg seems to be cutting back on some inventory, especially in their open box section.
