Meh, I think it's mostly a personal decision. For me, the pro does well enough. And about $400 to upgrade is too much for a vid card. As much as I'd love a 6800GT I think I'm gonna wait till the price comes down. But I'm more of a 2nd generation guy (ie, cheap), looking for proven products at a good/performance ratio. Then I OC it to try and keep up.

I'd recommend waiting as well. COD runs great on my 9800P and from what I've heard, HL2 runs good on the 9800's (using the 4.12 beta drivers), so it would be hard for me to justify a new card at this point.

depends on what resoultion you run at and how much AA you need to be happy.

9800pro can IMO run these games fine and I would wait for upgrade till next generation, but it's really a personal opinion.

it's not worth paying $400 to play a new game...
Sure you'll get better performance, but if you do a $400 video card upgrade every time a new hot game comes out, you'll be broke pretty fast.

If you're rich and money is no object, go for it

Well, I'm not rich, but I'm not poor either. It will kind of be a x-mas gift to myself. I would move my 9800pro to my wife's computer and replace her GeForce 5200. So for about $400 I would upgrade both systems.

9800 pro is a real toss-up, I would say no, don't upgrade now, wait for the next gen. I have a 9600 pro and it was still a close choice, but I did upgrade mainly because I could call it a Christmas present to myself. Even with the lowely 9600, I have been able to play every game recently (including Doom3, though at 1024 with med details).

Stick with the 9800 pro till you can pick up a X800 pro or 6800GT for $250 and laugh at us who payed $400+

I would stick with that card myself. Wait until prices go down on the new midrange cards at least.

I have an AthlonXP 2500 with originally a 9700 Pro. HL2 played great at 1024x768 no aa. It also seemed fine at 1280x1024 no aa. I bought a BFG 6800GT from Best Buy to experiment with. Now HL2 runs at 1280x1024 4aa/8af reflect all with frames between 48-100+. Also I can max out Far Cry on the same settings and hold around 56+fps. Is it worth the $370 dollars I paid...I really want to go the SLI "option" path.

For your money I would get the 6600GT agp or the X700 XT (if it ever exists).

Good Luck!
