I've been throwing tons of unused electronics/computer gear on CL lately, but some people are just shady..

So today I sold an i5 desktop I built and stopped using, eventually assuming I would have to part it out and sell parts individually. We agreed to meet at a local supermarket, and when I got there I parked in the front right by the entrance. Called the buyer, who told me he was in the back corner of the parking lot...OK, great, come to the front and pick it up.

In the meantime I put the computer in a cart, just to speed things up. He parks his van in the parking lot, walks over to me and I ask if he was ***. He looks down, keeps walking to me and I say here it is, and ask if he has questions. Nope. He then slowly unzippers his vest (now he was kind of hood, so I was half expecting a knife to pop out) and then says his van is parked close by. So I say OK (who cares?).

He pays me, and I gtfo at max speed. Maybe I'm paranoid, but it's shady asking me to come to a corner in the parking lot and then later randomly telling me your van is close by as you're looking for your money.

Not sure what you're complaining about. You sold your stuff. The guy paid and left.
About not going to CL? You'll be back. I'm sure of it.

Not sure what the issue is, I've done a CL transaction at the back of a Sam's Club parking lot and at an empty mall parking lot with no one around. things went fine.

Check with your local police office to see if they will let you do transactions there. There have been a few places that started doing this.

I'm confused. You call the guy and he tells you he's in the corner of the parking lot. He drives closer to where you and buys your pc. What's the problem?

He may have parked in the corner of the parking lot b/c it wasn't busy, making it easy for you to park right next to him and quickly perform the deal.

he was wearing a hooded sweater, that's almost like, an attempted robbery.

You don't understand. He unzipped his hooded vest . . . cue ominous music . . . slowly. D:

I'm most often the scariest person in the room. Aside from flakes, I've never had issues with CL dealings.

It must be tough to live life when people go around being so afraid.

So disappointed you said vest. 🙁

Lmao.. yeah I don't understand. He came to you like you wanted then paid you...

I do plenty of cl transactions and I think the funniest one was when I sold a touchpad to a girl. I showed her to my door just like I always do with CL transactions and she freaked out lol. I don't think about things in that way I guess. I show everyone my door since I'm used to it and it's courteous.

Wait you successfully SOLD something? I've been trying to sell my car for a month and all I get is enthusiastic e-mails from buyers who want to PayPal me money immediately and will arrange for a courier company to pick up the vehicle at their expense. It sounded legit aside from the multiple offers from seperate e-mail addresses with slight variations to the text.

I prefer meeting in parking lots or coffee shops. I've gone to some apartments and houses that looked like they hadn't been cleaned since the day they moved in. Just because craigslist uses a peace sign icon doesn't mean you have to live like a hippie. D:
