This is NOT the point of this thread. The point is whether anyone has been in a similar situation and was able to refund their money or maybe exchange the vacation for a later date and what sort of excuse they used.

Refund will not happen, unless they purchased 3rd party insurance. The best you can hope for is to be re-seated on the next flight the following week, if there is room.

:(

Good luck with getting something out of this.

I would have assumed the time to be AM since it didn't state either and they run 24hr time.

Honestly, they should have confirmed flight time with a live representative. Hopefully, the package will allow for a date change and/or someone will take sympathy on them.

This is probably going to be tough. I think the best thing you could do is call the vacation place as soon as they open, and beg for mercy. While you are waiting, read ALL the fine print that was included with their vacation documents and see if you can find a loophole.

If they absolutely refuse to do anything, plead with the credit card company. If they offer a half-price deal on a future trip, you might want to consider it. That could be better than nothing.

I guess they don't travel often, since all air travel related things use the twenty-four hour clock, so 1:35 PM would have said 13:35. There are no after midnight flights at the YVR? I could have sworn I had a flight to either China or Japan that left after midnight. Maybe it was before. But I don't live near the airport so I've got no idea. All I know is that the Beijing airport seems to have flights going 24/7, and it sucks to be living around there.

That's a shame. I would have assumed on first glance that the flight was in the PM, but being the anal retentive paranoiac I am I would have called the airline half a dozen times to confirm the actual departure time. I also would have gotten to the airport eight hours early just to make sure I didn't miss it.

You can call up the airline and ask if they'll credit you any money back. Other than that, nope. 1:35 = 1:35am, 13:35 = 1:35pm.

So the printout said 1:35 without an AM/PM designation, and your parents thought it was safe to assume one over the other?

Your parents are SOL.

No sh!t. I can't believe anyone is stupid enough not to realize that nearly all travel times are standardized in 24 hour time.
