I have an 8800 ultra and I am wondering if it will be good enough for awhile or should I sell it while the prices are still good and get the new nvidia gtx 260
I would sell it while it still has value. I am not sure what mobo you are running but 4850s in crossfire should destroy 8800 U - if you can sell it for $400 that is hehe
you can sell it and still get a good value for your card.
As far as currently increased performance, the reviews on anand and tomshardware suggest that the 280 is slower than a 9800gx2 and 8800 gt sli set up most of the time. Not to mention more expensive. On this front I don't think you are going to notice a great improvement or much of any until 2560 resolution.
See what happens with the 4870's reviews and then you will know if there is any reason to upgrade.
I see no point in going from a 8800Ultra to a GTX 260 based on the benchs i have seen so far. If you really want to upgrade you should get a 280 but even then i don't think it's worth it at that price tag unless :
1) You game at 1900 x 1200 or 2500 x 1600 and want to use AA
2) You plan to SLI/Tri SLI
3) You're rich and have enough money to throw around
I wanted to use the step up program to go from a 9800GTX to a 260 but looking at the benchs the 200$ it would cost me to do it wouldn't be worth it for a 5-7 FPS increase in most games at 1650 x 1080.
