In all of this I hear nothing about the 7950 from AMD. What if they pulled the biggest switcheroo in history and the 7970 was their 5850/6950 of this generation and they released some beastly 7980 as their single card king.

I'm dangerously close to pulling the trigger on one of these on the 9th.

I know i am pulling the trigger.

Already returned my 6790 for cash back just to make sure i could pony up the dough with enough cash left over for a small lunch and a new game as well:)

Did not want to wait till feb i do fear my i3 2100 will bottleneck it but i got plans the following weeks after the 7970 purchase to pick up a z68 and 2500k or wait out for ivy if there is any more news by then:D

I just had a forced upgrade due to a motherboard failure so I'm ready for a 7970 to replace my 5870. Then I will try and oc my 2500k to 4.5ghz and be all set.

If I can snag a 7970 anywhere for 550 on the 9th I will.

7970 seems like a good oclocker, so refresh with 25% more power and a $499 aud price and i'm in.

Most reviewers are saying the hd7970 is one of the loudest cards they've tested. How much louder can a hd7990 get? I *really* loathe loud systems. Hence why I always end up buying cards with custom AIB coolers.

Nah, doubt it.. If its anything like the 6970 fan, the default fan speeds are really out of wack. I mean 70% fanspeed at 50c, I think i saw that somewhere with 7970.

Probably a simple fix with MSI afterburner and custom fan profiles.

8800GT revolutionized what it meant to have a ~$200 GPU, and it was shockingly close to high end. Remember how hard it could be to get one, and the 30%+ price-gouging?

They've done it a few times but more spaced out than AMD aggressive pricing in the 4000-6000 series. Will be great if NVIDIA prices 28nm parts at great price/perf.
