Donald Trump was so confused about basic economics that he had to phone a friend at 3am, it was reported last night.

The renowned deal-maker, former host of the US Apprentice, sometime steak salesman and Leader of the Free World couldn’t remember if it was a strong dollar that’s good for the economy or a weak one.

(Hint: For the purposes of Trump’s economic plan, it’s a weaker dollar. Scroll down for why. )

But when Trump was lost in confusion, he didn’t ring one of the army of economic experts at his disposal - perhaps Steve Mnuchin, the former Goldman Sachs boss who is his pick for Treasury Secretary.
Instead, he phoned his National Security Adviser, retired Lt. General Mike Flynn, according to the Huffington Post , who cite two sources familiar with Flynn’s accounts of the incident.

It's only fake news if it paints Trump in a bad light, because Trump told you to think that way.

Look, it's true that you need to take these stories with a grain of salt, but it's pretty clear that the Trump administration is particularly leaky.

Here is the link that the original article points to. Amazingly enough, it also points to other tidbits of information leaked from the White House. Where are the sources for these articles coming from? Soon the media will surpass the idiocy of Fox News and their Obama obsession over the past 8 years.

Well clearly they must be made up imaginary people. It's all fake afterall. I mean, there's no way the media would take the time to ensure the people the information is coming from is credible. When multiple media outlets are independently verifying the same thing it can't be real. It's far easier to just call FAKE and never have to give attention to anything you don't want to hear/read.

He does have a point. We do have to be careful about anonymous sources. The actual problem though is that he and other conservatives possess no such scrutiny for anonymous sources when they are telling them what they want to hear.

Yep, this. You should be careful with believing anonymous sources but you should also recognize that when it comes to the internal workings of the White House you will ONLY get anonymous sources. PokerGuy is perfectly happy with believing them when they tell him what he wants to hear and ignoring them otherwise. That's how you maintain the bubble.

I read this earlier and thought it was funny (and sad for how far we've fallen):

2008 fear: the president gets a scary call at 3AM.

2017 fear: the president places a scary call at 3AM.

Also, assuming this is accurate, how the fuck can Trump have been ranting about trade for this long and not know if he wants to increase or decrease the value of the dollar? The incompetence is unbelievable.

A politican makes statements that are intentionally aimed at stirring people up, those things including outright lies, and the people have shown time and time again they refuse (at least in sufficient quantities) to raise any significant level of objection. The press, because it's fallen to pitching for partisan interests, has lost all credibility for shaping the peoples' moral response to the politician's statements. The politican meanwhile like a pig in slop in the resultant wisdom-vacuum, is savvy enough to recognize that all this publicity acts directly as a kind of potential energy, to be used by him later as he wishes. What do you do?

Stop reporting those statements. Just stop.

Is this your way of saying ignorance is bliss? His base is already ignorant enough. We need more sunshine

He's saying it's not news, so don't make it news. Take away the microphone so to speak. I see merits in both approaches. I lean towards keeping the microphone there, mocking relentlessly, and shaming the ignorant into oblivion. Problem with the ignorant is they often don't get you're mocking them, or don't see the original reason for the mockery as a problem.
