We haven't ever been a representative democracy.

That's silly.

Go study your political system.

"Simply put, a representative democracy is a system of government in which all eligible citizens vote on representatives to pass laws for them. A perfect example is the U.S., where we elect a president and members of the Congress." - From the link above, scroll down for transcript.

My first thought was that this is going to be a chain link fence and nothing more.

Yes, but a chain link fence like no other chain link fence ever made. It will have revolving doors every hundred yards with welcome mats, free changes of clothes (of the agricultural motif by Ivanka) and craft fair booths at every entrance selling fake social security cards, State ID cards and gun registrations (all made in China of course) and all paid for by the Mexican government like Trump insisted they would. ;)

I think my favorite part of that quote is the thought of some guy just hanging out within a foot or two of the wall and then BAM! out of nowhere a 60 pound burlap sack of cocaine falls on his head.

Cocaine sacks keep fallin' on my head
And just like all those Russian guys that end up dead
Nothin' seems to fit
Those cocaine sacks are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

So I just did me some talkin' to my son
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Tweeting emails' on the job
Those cocaine sacks are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

But there's one thing I know
The Mueller they send to meet me won't defeat me
It won't be long till Uncle Rico steps up to greet me

Cocain Sacks keep fallin' on my head

Active attempts to suppress and manipulate the vote aren't really compatible with that.

The US's system aspires to be a representative democracy. In practice the democracy is constrained and the representation warped.

It will be the best fence ever, believe me.

The sad thing is one of the main reasons we had our Revolution is that we didn't want to be ruled by a madman. And while we may have had fools as Presidents in the past (although I'd be hard pressed to name one more willfully stupid than The Donald) not one while the US has been a major world power.

I immediately envisioned the Wall fronted by just the heads visible of all the Americans drilled in to the ground. Call it the Head Wall or the Drugs Kill Americans Wall or America's Finest Wall or post a sign at the beginning of the wall of heads 'We Paid For The Wall' or 'Watch Your Step, Steve doesn't like being stepped on and Marilyn hates it when dirt is kicked in to her mouth!'

The wall was always a metaphor for ethnic segregation.

Now that it's a fence, perhaps our tax dollars can afford one lock for every single tax payer...We can all go down to the wall and attach our loathe locks with our names as if we're over the Seine in Paris!
