Months after returning to the radio with a pledge to mend the wounds caused by his comments about a women's basketball team, Don Imus is once again defending on-air remarks regarding race. During an on-air conversation Monday about the arrests of suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones, Imus asked, "What color is he?"

Told by sports announcer Warner Wolf that Jones, who used to be nicknamed Pacman, is "African-American," Imus responded, "There you go. Now we know."

Asked in an e-mail message what he was trying to convey, Mr. Imus wrote: ?I meant he was being picked on because he?s black.?? He added that Dick Gregory, a veteran comedian and activist who is black, would be a guest on his show on Tuesday, to discuss the death of George Carlin. ?We?ll see what he thinks,?? Mr. Imus wrote. ?I mean?come on!??

Non-story, people just sitting out there waiting to be offended.

I heard the audio clip of Imus' comment this morning, and it was perfectly clear to me he was saying Pacman was being picked on for being black.

Anyone who actually heard the clip could not think Imus was saying anything racist.

true. i'm not an Imus fan, but those that have nothing better to do took what he said totally out of context.

Al Sharpton of course is all over it.

It really matters little whether he said anything racist or not. The MSM and local Nitwitness News stations are already all over it portraying it as racist and once the high priests of media pronounce from on high it is all over for him. I hope I'm wrong but having seen these things play out time and time again I doubt it.

If people bothered to listen to that portion without a set agenda in mind it would have been clear Imus was saying Pacman was getting picked on because he was black. Sharpton's all over it and I'm betting Jesse Jackson will be following suit soon.

Sharpton calling someone else a racists is priceless...if it weren't for the fact he does it so often.

Al Sharpton is a fucking detriment to society. I would garner that more than 50% of the African American population probably wish he would just go away. He brings more negative light on the race than he does good.

I personally wish he meets with an unfortunate accident which rips him of his ability to be seen in public. The sooner the better

It doesn't matter, the sound byte is racist and that's all most people are playing.

It's a hack job.

I wish some dirt would be brought up about Al Sharpton to knock him off his g'damn high horse and make it so that we never see his ugly face again. He is a piece of human garbage and I can only imagine what kind of skeletons are in his closet.

There is all ready a ton of dirt on him that is out in public but it doesn't stop the news media from continuing to cover everything he says and does as though it is somehow meaningful and important.

Really? I must just have never paid attention. I don't remember anything other than infedelity, maybe. I still don't understand why he carries any kind of weight. Him being called a reverend irks me to no end.

I wonder what the reactions here would be like if Pacman Jones himself claimed that he was being picked on because he's black.

It must be a slow day in media-land for this to be a "news" story.

Imus should get on the radio and tell them all to go fuck themselves

What I find more disturbing is Imus defending this POS if he was indicating that Pacman was picked up for being black. It sounds to me like Pacman was picked up for being a criminal...not because he was black. Why Imus would be defending the POS is another issue...probably doing it to play to the watchdogs and look like he is a friend of the black populace.

WTF? You'd think all the "activists" like Sharpton and his ilk would applaud the fact that Imus is supporting their theories of racial profiling and discrimination against blacks by police. So Imus says "they're picking on Pacman because he's black" and they get all pissed...

Yes, the guy's a thug, and that's why the cops keep arresting him, but you'd think Sharpton would be agreeing that "The Man" is in full effect here... Imus just can't win and needs to go home.

You're assuming Imus's claim of what he meant is true. From listening to the tape, it could go either way. But either way, it was a pretty stupid thing to say. And if Al Sharpton said it (with your interpretation), you'd probably be calling him a racist.

i'd assume he's watching what he says after the "nappy headed ho" incident and he's not stupid enough to spew anything remotely racist again. based on that, i'd go with him defending the outlaw known as pacman jones versus dissing him.
