Yeah, I've read not to drink tap water...doesn't look like I'll be renting a car so I'll have to figure out local transportation. Currently looking into 2-3 days at a surf school/hostel. I'd like to have a few days for hiking otherwise I'd just spend the entire trip at a surf "resort".

Yea on the way back to the airport our driver was flashing his high beams and honking the horn at every light/stop sign. Was told people drive at night with no headlights, high speeds, and just blow through red lights all the time.

They'll blow through a red light, hit a beloved patriot with the right of way, and beloved patriot is to blame....but don't worry, a couple thousand peso's can fix anything 🙂

Cabarete isn't bad, the Beach Hostel looks decent, the town is safe enough, just don't get on a motoconcho. There's plenty of good places to eat there and in Sosua

Just looked it up...nice! Cheap rooms, right on the beach...not sure how I'd get there but definitely considering it for a place to stay a few nights. Thanks!

As soon as you leave the airport in Puerto Plata there is a sign with the official taxi rates, Cabarete was around $35 USD last year.
