I miss getting free domains from DomainZero. Lets see, before they stopped giving out domains, I registered 28 domains for free, all in my own name... :)

I am thinking of starting my own website and i have a certain idea and concept about the thing...
But the problem is, i have no idea how to go about it.
Do i have to register with some company? or do i have to sign up with some hosting company? etc etc.... i have no idea.

so if any of u kind people out there would like to help me with this, could u please send me a PM or email? :) thanks a lot.

So if you registered with domainzero, you don't own the domain name?
(What does 'owning' the domain name mean?)
And after 2 years, they'll ask you to pay for it? or pay $20 to transfer it to another place?

dop: what type of website r u looking at?

for those of you worried about these companies going under, rest assured that every domain reg. company is legally required to insure its holdings - i.e. if they go under there will be another company that underwrites them to take over.. like TUCOWS.net, Register.com, etc.

I personally like www.domainmonger.com
Nice service and decent prices.
For web hosting I went with www.1dollarhosting.com
$49 setup (one time) and $1 / month with tons of goodies

I don't understand why you'd wnat to pay a $49 set-up fee. Do you have any idea how much it costs these companies to set up hosting for you? About $1, max!

I just registred a domain with Joker.com for 12 Euros per year, about 10 bucks. If you're looking for a really cheap host: http://www.34sp.com. For about $1.40 per month you get:

- telnet/SSH shell account
- PHP4, mySQL
- own CGI
- 30 MB space
- raw log file
- 10 pop3 boxes etc etc etc

Plus, for only $1 more you get your own static IP. No I'm not affiliated with this company, just a satisfied customer.
