Domain Transfer question

OK I have a couple of domains with namecheap and they are due to expire.

I was going to transfer them to godaddy to keep all domains together.

how long will my sites be effectted?

Sites are hosted with addaction and 1and1

They will be up and running during a transfer. If they expire then thats a different case but you should still have some time before the registrar locks it and changes the nameservers to their own.

OK so both are set to expire after june 6.

If I do the transfer then I will basically have no down time on my email.

o I need to do anything at namecheap?

I went through this process back in February. It's mostly painless transferring to godaddy.

Basically, you have to do the following:

Pre transfer:
Ensure the domain is unlocked on current nameserver
Ensure you are the contact for owner/administrator

To transfer:
Go through the process of buying a transferred domain name from godaddy
An email should be sent to the administrative contact (which should be you, if you've followed the steps.)
Follow the link or instructions in the email
Log into godaddy and make the attempt to transfer the domain name.
Should be done, but pay attention to your email to ensure there are no errors in transferring.



There should be NO downtime at all. If you understand domain name propagation, then you'll know that it's merely a process of updating any records with recent change. Since the IP of your host and the nameservers stay the same through the process, there is never a time where the records are blank or missing.

They are correct about the no downtime. My question is, why are you going from namecheap to godaddy?

Cheaper and you can use a CC instead of using a CC through Paypal.

Also, I thought they accepted CC without paypal?

I've paid for all my domains through Namecheap using my CC, no paypal in between.

I've paid for all my domains through Namecheap using my CC, no paypal in between.

I do the same - I even pay with my paypal credit card so the money comes from my payapl account and I get 1.5% cashback.

I ahve another domain that I bought with godaddy so that is why aI made the switch.

May go back next year you never know

Then I must correct myself, I thought that your site was already down... If they aren't then there should be any downtime in the transfer because either the old one will be up or the new one will be up...

Why don't people like using PayPal to pay?

I picked namecheap MAINLY for that reason.... Every other company I looked at wanted a credit card. My view is the fewer companies with my credit card the better.

NameCheap and GoDaddy are both great domain registrars and accept credit cards.

godaddy is 8.20 to transfer so I saved about a dollar

now I need a host for my new site that will host a forum (php) because my stupid 1and1 does not have a way to drop my wife unused domain.
