Domain Registration

Who do you use?

I would like to move off of the ones that market you incessantly, like Network Solutions, 1and1 and GoDaddy.

I hear about Hover.com on some Tech Podcasts - Are they any good?

I only need registration and nothing else; no hosting, etc.

It would be nice if private registration was included or at least an option.

Avoid hover. I used to be with Itsyourdomain and they got bought by Hover, it was very crap service and the management interface is terrible. Maybe it's better now though.

I'm currently with DomainIT. Avoid Godaddy like the plague, there's just too much controversy with them, such as the fact that they support animal poaching, and SOPA. Who knows what else they'll pull off.

I don't have a problem with Hover. It used to be something else (not itsyourdomain, I can't remember what it was called) which also got bought by Hover, but I have never had any issues. Only emails I get from them are renewal notices which you can go into settings and choose how many months out you want to get the email.

NameCheap.com with WhoisGuard protection 😎

Yup Namecheap. Had roughly 100 domain names with them back when I was doing web design & hosting full-time. No weirdness like with GoDaddy. Been using Namecheap for probably 5+ years with no major hassles. There's always coupons too (Retailmenot.com, or just ask CS).

I use dreamhost or theplanet for my domains. Even though I no longer have hosting from either of them, they still allow you to continue hosting your domains there.

Dreamhost has private whois which is nice.

Namecheap
I have used their registration and hosting for around 15 years.
I don't think their hosting is actually owned by namecheap, but it's always been good.

Namecheap

Sometimes I bought $1 domain from GoDaddy when they have a promo and then used the Namecheap promo that they have from time to time (the one with promo code BYEBYEGD) to transfer it to Namecheap for $1. This means $2 total for two years, with the domain name ended up hosted by Namecheap.

hi,

I have used XnYnZ.com because, i got the private registration from here. It gives the security to my whois information and it provides good customer support. I have no idea about Hover and Godaddy. If you need the domain registration and the private registration from the same domain name provider visit the above site as i had already mentioned.

I transferred my domains from Namecheap to Hover. Namecheap was a little bit cheaper, but I appreciate Hover's clean, simple interface.

I mostly switched from DreamHost to Hover a few months ago. Never have had a problem with either as registrars, but was moving my hosting away from DreamHost so I figured I'd move my domain registration as well and Hover came very highly recommended to me.
