Domain Registration Specials

Guys. I wanted to first off thank everyone for the warm welcome over the last couple of weeks. It as been a learning experience to say the least.

Over the weekend, my fiance and I have decided to start up a little business (by little, I mean little) for a little extra cash. In a basket, it is essentially computer repair for my neighborhood and surrounding areas, but not limited to repair (you know, typical "do everything" kinda guy).

Needless to say, I will have a little website up. Can't give out the domain name as it isn't taken, but is a unique name - we spent a couple of hours trying to figure one out. However, I need your help! I am looking to purchase the name in both *.com and *.net endings, WITH PRIVATE REGISTRATION of course.

Does anyone know of any places like godaddy.com, register.com, etc that are offering a great price for both domains plus private registration? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

As everyone begins to struggle with finances, we are right there too. However, I am willing to go the extra mile and bring in needed funds for wedding and future purchases (home, car, etc). Thanks again and wish me luck!

Use godaddy.com if you just want the best price, otherwise namecheap.com for overall ease of use.

Edit: Also, just a warning, you're getting into a generally thankless job. It's not going to be fun, and if you both just want some extra cash, maybe a weekend/night job would be better. I see computer repair as the dry cleaning of the computer world, it's at the bottom of the chain and you can't really offer something that someone else can't.

Edit 2: I guess you can offer the "mom and pop" type of atmosphere and attitude, but it's easy to drown in that kind of operation.

I work in IT in a corporate environment...I know how thankless it can be. I am fine with that. I am not out here to make friends...just to get things taken care of for people. Flat rate service is the way to go and I can make my case with comparisons to BestBuy and CircuitCity's shitty services that charge outrageous amounts.

I think it is because you have to buy hosting or email or some other product to get the 1.99 price. I think* the domains I have bought with them run about 9.99 each after its all added up (private registration, fees, etc.)

If you google "godaddy fatwallet" you can usually find a good coupon.

The first code is 3$ off 6.95 .com so that should help quite a bit. I use their hosting too and it seems to be alright.

dude, I'm cheap.. Really cheap.. but time is money - just register the domain already on godaddy and good luck with your future endeavors 🙂

P.S. hosting is where you can really save... search the hot deals forum for Cookie host. Less than 11 bucks for a year of hosting!

Hey, there's a new domain bracket that ends w/ .ME. I wonder if fuck.me's taken.

Tried that too....no idea why they advertise $1.99 and in cart it shows $6.95.

Multiple years or different types of .* have different pricing.

"with any new, non-domain purchase"

As Rowboat said, buying hosting would qualify.

Take my advice and just register the domain for their $7 😛

Do you even need a website initially? How do you plan to get customers? If something like a flyer, hand those out, and see what people say.

Won't know till you try without it - start without one for a few months, then add one, look at traffic to your site, ask customers where they found out about you, etc. and see what kind of impact it has. If you find it's very important, then maybe it's worth investing your time into, otherwise, you might end up doing all that work with no real need that you're solving.

For quick and "easy" money, I'd get a part time job for the evenings and weekends. That's something both of you could do and you'll probably make more that way.

Cheap *really* is not better in all cases. I'm not likely to register any of the domains I manage with a registrar that costs me $BIGNUM per year, but I'm not going to spend hours and hours looking for the best deal, either. I originally registered some of my domains with GoDaddy, many years ago. I regretted it almost immediately. I now use *only* NameCheap.

[*]NameCheap's control panel (domain control panel - don't confuse it with hosting control panel) is FAR superior to GoDaddy's. The difference is like night and day. The people behind the GoDaddy website ought to be brought up on charges for crimes against humanity.

[*]NameCheap does include WhoisGuard privacy protection with their domains: Reference

[*]NameCheap is 100% RossMAN endorsed.

As a few others have mentioned, use namecheap. While it's no 1.99, I promise you will never have any problems, if you do the support is very quick to answer. I have had domains with them for the past 3-4 years and I couldn't be happier.

Use godaddy.com and use the promo code chill3 ( 6.99 .com reg) comes to about 15$ total for private included with it per year.

Also depending on how much the final order is

gdd1101c gives 10% off 40$ or more.

BTPS7 gives 20% off 50$ or more
