Domain registration doesn't include web hosting?

Sorry I'm new to this stuff so i want to ask you guys this. The fee for domain registration is just for registering domain only? So what do you do after u have the domain? You can either pay for webhosting or have your own server to host right? Thanks for any input. I really want to have my own site..hehe...i'm sick of geocities now 🙂

When u register a domain, u only register that name, then what u can do is have it forward to a website of urs...if ur not into running ur own server or a septrate host, just get a place that hosts and registers ur domain...

oh yeah..one more question, how do all these registration sites work? What happen if they go out of bussiness? How will i keep that domain that I currently have forever? I heard the ICANN handle all of this right? Thanks for any input.

I personaly use innnerhost. If you need asp hosting. They are the best.

Has for domain registration, I have used go daddy, registar.com, and all-dns.com. No problems from any of them has far has registering goes.

ah, thanks for more info Adul 🙂
What happen if the site that you registered the domain go out of bussiness? How will you continue to keep the domain if you can't pay the bill for the upcoming years? Have anyone encountered that dileama before or is it just something from my imagination?

you'll still maintain ownership of the domain. there are huge databases that contain this info and stuff. i'm sure they'd figure out something, probably transfer you over to another registrar.

yea, to be honest i've never really heard of a registrar going out of business. they have pretty low overhead. and up until recently there weren't that many of them, like one or two, so it was extremely unlikely. you might see a little more of it as web registrations decrease and number of companies increase.

Here is one site that I host at Hostiva.com: AbsurdNetwork.com
You can check out the speed of that one. Don't look at the content of that site since there is almost none yet.
