Domain registration and web hosting recommendation

Looking into various services for domain registration and web hosting. I've used GoDaddy in the past for domains, and Volusion for web hosting.

Came across an ad for 1and1.com and I'm wondering if anyone has used them and has any experience with one or both of their services?

Namecheap for domain name registration (free whois protection for the first year).

Avoid 1and1.com, it's like webhosting for preschoolers. I don't know any specific hosts but what are your space and size requirements? Any other requirements?

They're alright. I'd go with amdskips recommendation and use namecheap. If you have a "small business" you could sign up for a free .com at register.com and then after like 30 days you can transfer your domain over to namecheap. It'll be like $7 total for 2 years.

I'd look on webhostingtalk.com for webhosting suggestions.

Last time I needed to setup a name and a site I used:

Namecheap for the domain and Cernax's hosting.

Was easy to setup, and I've had no problems so far. (knocks on wood)
