Domain Name Registration + Hosting: any huge difference?

I'm looking for both domain name registration and hosting for a web site for, at most, a small business, at least a personal web site (to list a resume, baby pictures, etc.). I'm wondering if there is any substantive difference between the two services (comparable package) besides the price.

Cheers!

Niether!!

Do a search on this forum for web hosting providers. Both of those are extremely overpriced, and don't provide any special services. As for yahoo, in my mind they will always be a search engine.

As for the domain, buy it at namecheap or godaddy. As a rule of thumb, I would suggest not buying a domain name from the web hosting company.

So that if you switch hosting companies you don't have to worry about transferring the domain name?

Yup, you would just log into the control panel and change the nameservers. Each host gives you a pair of nameservers, and those tell your domain where its hosted.

I'd grab a domain off of namecheap.com

I'd then grab a yearly hosting plan off of telnap.com or you can contact me if you want one from Idologic

:)

Like Eric said Neither!

Domain - NameCheap.com or GoDaddy.com
Hosting - Pair.com

Absolutely, positively do not do it through Yahoo. I made that mistake a long time ago; getting my domain back was a hell I never wish to experience again. That is, if you can actually do your best Sherlock Holmes impression and find out how to contact them (no contact information at all after you login to manage your domain).

I've been very happy with GoDaddy and I hear great things about NameCheap as well.
