Domain hosting: 1 domain, multiple servers?

I just signed up for the 1and1.com hosting deal. I have my domain pointing to the router at my home currently. I want to be able to use both the 1and1 host and myself as a host. I am not totally sure about nameservers. I use zoneedit.com as my nameservers now. Can I just add the 1and1.com nameservers and then create a subdomain at the 1and1 host?

To make it more clear here is what I want:

Router at home: x.com
/
Domain x:
\
1and1.com host web.x.com

Is it just going to be easiest to transfer the domain to 1and1.com and setup a subdomain redirect to my home? (i.e. home.x.com -> home IP)

<-- 😕 and overcomplicating things...

You have to setup nameservers in win2000 or in linux to use subdomains, I have no idea how 1and1.com has it setup, however you should probabily just set the nameservers on your domain to go directly to 1on1.com's servers says common logic..

I just put the 1and1 nameservers in as the primary for my domain.

Now when I go to setup the subdomain to point to my home, it must be a URL (http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xx). I want to be able to terminal in for remote desktop and stuff. the http:// make the remote desktop connection say 'server is in valid'

Just buy another domain or terminal in by IP eh?
