All,

Have any of you set up a Domain at home with an XP Pro based system...

might i need to dedicate a separate PC to be PDC?

Can I run an exchange server on the same PDC box?

I am looking to have more control over users and what they access and at the same pick up knowledge on what it takes to build a domain.

I would like to set up an exchange server to have a ral exchange environment at home for the various PCs

I would have the following:
Netgear RT314 router to a cable modem connection (Currently a Fast Ethernet workgroup)
Athlon 1.0Ghz main file server/my PC
Dell Dimension 4400 1.6Ghz/512MB Internet surfer light office stuff PC
IBM R-30 1.0Ghz laptop (could be used as the PDC/Exchange server)
Soon to be added possible wireless access point, and print server module (or just keep the printer shared off the main PC, and phot printer off the dell)
Main system on XP Pro the other to be pro from XP Home shortly

Any suggestions, especially any websites where you have found "I have built a Domain/exchange server at home" info appreciated

Thanks.

You will need to use one of the MS servers (2k for example) to do this. XP can neither be a domain controller nor run exchange.

Yes. Though PDC is more of an NT4 term. But yeah, you can have a 2k server be both a DC and run Exchange.
