So I'm having issues with my primary server (Windows 2000 Server). This server runs DNS and the AD. I can access the AD just fine. However in my error log, I'm getting a message frequently that says that a primary domain controller can not be found. So I ran dcdiag.exe and this is what it says:
DC Diagnosis
Performing initial setup:
Done gathering initial info.
Doing initial non skippeable tests
Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\TRUST
Starting test: Connectivity
TRUST's server GUID DNS name could not be resolved to an
IP address. Check the DNS server, DHCP, server name, etc
Although the Guid DNS name
(9a22da35-312f-430b-a75d-efd5a2812459._msdcs.PLTDOMAIN) couldn't be
resolved, the server name (trust.xxxxxxxxx) resolved to the IP address
(xxx.xxx.xx.xx) and was pingable. Check that the IP address is
registered correctly with the DNS server.
......................... TRUST failed test Connectivity
Doing primary tests
Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\TRUST
Skipping all tests, because server TRUST is
not responding to directory service requests
Running enterprise tests on : xxxxxxxxx
Starting test: Intersite
......................... xxxxxxxxx passed test Intersite
Starting test: FsmoCheck
Warning: DcGetDcName(PDC_REQUIRED) call failed, error 1355
A Primary Domain Controller could not be located.
The server holding the PDC role is down.
......................... xxxxxxxxx failed test FsmoCheck
Where do I start with this? What problems am I exactly looking at here?
Thanks,
Lance
