Hey peoples,

I have a domain that I want, however it is already taken. The domain is set to expire on a specific day during the first part of next week (December 2005).

I can "backorder" the domain via godaddy for $18.95 and "if this name expires or is cancelled by the registrant we'll try to grab it the instant it becomes available."

I am really confused on what this means, because the way I see it is that if many people backorder the same domain, the only person that gets it is the person that backordered it first. How does this work, since there are plenty of domain registering company's just like godaddy?

How long does the current owner have to re-establish or pay for more years with this domain? For example, lets say the domain expires on December 10th, 2005. Will I be able to grab it December 10th, or will I have to wait 2-5 days to give the current owner plenty of time to pay for more time? How fast will I get it if I pay $18.95 to backorder it?

I really want this domain......... discuss :)

Once it expires you have to wait 30-50 days before you'll be allowed to get it, how long has the domain been registered?

Since 2001. However the site, when you punch it in directly into your browser takes you to one of those lame search type pages that says the domain name on the upper left and has "popular links" and "related links". It does not have any content (user input) what-so-ever. Also it changes what you put in the url to something 100% different (punches it to landing.domainsponsor.c om and then index question a a ton of different numbers and letters.

Advanced Search should turn up a semi-recent thread on how this works. Usually you have to pay a lot more to get anything even semi-desirable.

Thanks a lot. Read through about 10 full threads concerning this and ultimately no one has a definate answer.

I did the "link:<domainname.com>" in google and absolutely zero results. This domain that I want hasn't ever been used and will probably lapse. I am aware that it may take 30-60 days before the registrar releases it to be purchased or it may go to auction. How can I tell or know what one will happen? From all of the threads that I read, I didnt see ONE person that said that using the "backordering" service via godaddy or other sites ever got them a domain.

Also please note my above post concerning this website in its current form. It has zero user-input content.
