it was not a defunct company when the gamecube was designed and ATi could've become defunct during the GC's lifespan for all anyone could've known in 1999.

That said, Nintendo has used ATI/AMD for their last 3 consoles. When the GameCube game out, the chip was reasonably powerful compared to ATI's best (like a Geforce 2 GTS/Radeon 8000), but the Wii and Wii U were vastly underpowered even compared to low end chips.

I started reading this. Nintendo was originally going to use an enhanced 3DO M2 that would have been good to go by fall 99, but that deal fell through. Instead MS would buy the company for WebTV. "Nintendo shifted their focus to a small company named ArtX made up of former Silicon Graphics engineers who designed the Nintendo 64′s hardware." It's not what you know but who you know must be true for Nintendo (which would explain why they used Renesas).

Never was able to get through a whole game without running into a game-breaking bug.

Wiis are so freakin cheap it doesn't even seem worth emulating anymore.

Wii games for example run in 480p with no or little AA which looks horrid stretched to fit on most 60" 1080p televisions. Playing Xenoblade in full HD is not to be missed.

Well, the emulator can play the disc if the disc drive can read Wii discs -- only a select few, old IDE DVD drives can read Wii discs.

Thanks for this thread, I hadn't used Dolphin in a while. Just made it to world 3 in Newer Super Mario Bros Wii. If you like NSMB Wii, be sure to check it out.

1080p, with 2-4x internal resolution, depending on the level. I could just leave it at 2, but some play fine at 4. Same thing with AA, sometimes 4x, often none.

On the levels that work with 4x res and 4x AA, it looks stunning. It still looks way better than the Wii when the settings aren't that high.

To my knowledge, there aren't any show stopping bugs with Dolphin and NSMB Wii.

There are SATA DVD drives that work as well, I have one from LG.

I clicked through many of the PS2 database and many of it was the same. Playable, runs at 100% or even 200%(dunno why they said that I guess it ran fast enough to run it at twice speed?). So PS2 library runs for the most part most of it's library yet Dolphin can barely run any of it's library and yet I'm "lazy" and "Emulators aren't for me?"

What I "lol" about is the reading comprehension fail of many members of this site. You might want to google dates on those emulators. To assume I meant a NES emulator would have the same problems as a Wii emulator at this point is just dense. Likewise for PCSX2 which has a 5 year lead time on Dolphins Wii portion.

Heh, well I figured out how to fix the sound glitching I was having in Twilight Princess. The game apparently didn't like that I was forcing it to run in native 1080p -- the Wii's native res isn't 16:9 (according to Dolphin, it's a funky 640x528). I changed it to run in 1280x1056, 2x the regular resolution, and practically all the sound glitches went away. Even upscaled from that, with 4x antialiasing thrown in, the game looks phenomenally better than the jaggy native resolution Wii version.

Dolphins 9% compatibility number is comprised mostly of WiiWare games, NES Ports, and EXTREMELY obscure games that I never cared to learn their lanes nor will I ever care to play them (Usually very simplistic games too).
Dolphin runs VERY VERY FEW GC games at full speed. If you look at only GC vs the GC Library, it's far under 9%.

So doing an actual Apples to Apples comparison (GC Library at Dolphin vs PS2 Library at PCSX2) makes it even more of a landslide in PCSX2's favor.

Dolphin does have pretty terrible compatibility though. Most games will have glitches and crashes, even popular games (xenoblades back in the day) takes a lot of builds and special configs to hammer out, typically taking more than a few months for a stable build.

PCSX 2 I don't really have problems with. Most games have been load and go, the only one that needed special tweaking was FF12.

I don't disagree with the Dolphin part, but my experience has been different on PCSX2 as well as Dolphin(meaning I haven't hit any game stopping bugs, crashes yes).

Defend my honor? I'm not a PC Gamer or anything I don't care about emulation at all. I don't identify myself as a gamer, or even discuss gaming on a regular basis so no, I don't care about what a user thinks about my capability of using an emulator is at all.

PCSX2 has a compatibilty of 86%.
Dolphin has a compatibility of 9%, mostly comprising of WiiWare, NES ports, and emulating the Wii's basic functions. Majority of that 9% doesn't even include major gamecube releases.

Meanwhile, PCSX2 is compatible with 86% of it's library including most of the top titles with little to no tinkering requiring.

You seem to have a lot of trouble with numbers but I'll help you out. 86% is higher than 9%.
