but isnt' halloween slated to be cancelled?
That's an interesting thought. I've been buying expensive candy the last few years. I wonder how I should handle this? I don't want $150 of chocolate sitting around...

This year the monsters at the door will be both real and potentially contagious!

Easy ... make sure to only buy your personal favorites.

May result in a bit of weight-gain however.... ;)

are people shopping there?

Oh fuck yes. You have to realize...we have one grocery store, one Ace Hardware, and a couple of mini-marts. Just about everything else is some kind of tourist store.
The long-time locals are thrilled with having a DG...they don't have to drive 25 miles to WalMart for stuff.

People best stick inside and cover their fucking face cause if we miss this, i am liable to punch a anti masker in their face. I have not done a single damn exciting thing since Covid started as i have been a responsible citizen with staying home and i would be damned if people fuck up this shit. I got some awesome ideas this year, well i hope to do them at least. So fucking stupid what we are having to put up in 2020.

Might as well just send 90% of it directly to a landfill.

Seriously! I've been in a "Dollar-General" exactly once and I won't be back anytime soon.

Family-Dollar on the other hand a bit surprisingly has been very good since Covid-19 started. (at least for the ones near me)

They have consistently had stock when most of the grocery stores were stripped bare.

Dollar General by me is awesome, they are good about stocking up and if i go about 8:30am or so which is typical no one is usually ever there. If i need things, i will stop there on the way home from my daily morning walks. If i need something like meat or something the DG does not carry, i order online and just pick it up at walmart.

Have not seen halloween candy though at my location. Unless it got stocked like today, i didn't go in today. I did yesterday though and did not see.

Does Dollar General still have those $10 Android phones? I used to buy those just for the spare charger and MicroUSB cable.

It was tough getting an charger and USB cable shipped for under $10.65 with tax back then!

They just opened a Dollar General in our little town. What a waste of space.
Dollar tree is a great visit for cookies for tea dipping such as these two so check if the dollar general does the same thing:

apparently it's all the rage with poor folks.

Cheap nasty shit in small quantities but at a "cheap" price. Go figure.

They are doing great and expanding rapidly as tons of stupid people continue to use them.

It's the same types of people that fail to make simple quantity-based calculations to say "Hey, if I buy a 20-pack of TP it's $14! THATS EXPENSIVE!"

Buuuut! I can buy this single-ply sandpaper roll for only $0.99 cents! SCORE! WHAT A BARGAIN!!!

I seldom find what I want at DollarGeneral. There's one near work, and I stop in every so often. I'll get a couple scented candles when the weather turns cool, and maybe some canned soup or something, but not much. I like DollarTree better. I don't get much from them either, but they get interesting stuff every so often. I try to get feta cheese from them. It's ~$5.20/lb. Not a bad price, and it tastes good for non special stuff.

Ironically, up until last month, Dollar General was the only local store within 35 miles of my home that sold a decent name brand milk and not that watered down "Great Value" crap. That, an an occasional loaf of bread, was the only reason I even went in there.

Oh well, I guess I'll never have to visit that place again.

To be fair there's only one DG near me and its in a sketchy neighborhood plus hasn't been open long. Maybe I'll give them another chance when I see a different store.

You get watered down milk by you?

Sam's Club also had Halloween candy out last week when I was there. I guess it's about time since they are always a season ahead, but this year has been so freaking weird so far, I guess it just doesn't feel like it's not that far out at this point.

Some stuff at Dollar Tree actually works out cheaper than other stores. (Not counting Costco or Sam's Club, since I don't have those near me.) I can't disagree with the "nasty" part, though, usually. :(

Take frozen, artificially flavored blueberry waffles. (Please! :p) 6 for $1 beats Wal-Mart's price on 10.
2.75L of soda for $1 is equivalent to $0.73 for a 2L. Other stores only occasionally beat that price, even on sale.
4 cups of (American-grown!) applesauce for $1 beats 6 cups at $1.75 or higher at other stores. (Though I can occasionally find 18 on an online mail-order store for about $4, which beats that, if buying in bulk is your thing.)
They used to have name-brand canned peaches for $1, too; but they replaced them with a nasty (There's that word again!) Chinese brand.

But I've only gone there three times since COVID, since they don't do free pick-up outside the store.

There really is no trick-or-treating in this little town. No sidewalks except on a couple of parts of the main drag...no street lights other than the main drags and at a few major intersections. In past years, they did a "kids show up in costume and get free candy" at the convention center in town...but with the WuFlu crap going on...I don't know if that will happen this year.
