Dollar coins - why they suck

It's late, I'm in a hotel, I need a coke. Coke machine doesn't want dollar bills. Check carry on for my "coin stash". There's a 2 euro coin, a few franks, some pesos and two US Dollar Coins! Sweet. coke here I come.

But NO! It's a freakin' vending machine and it won't take a freakin' dollar coin. The date on the sacamuhomina coin is 2000.

And the US Mint wants to push a dollar coin? Vending machines rarely even accept the current coin and if you give it to a cashier they look at you like you've given them a token from Caesar's Casino.

The next generation of machines will probably accept dollar coins.

Take it from someone who owns an arcade machine: A coin slot is much more reliable than a dollar bill slot. Longer life too.

By your logic, the euros, franks, and pesos also suck because the coke machine wouldn't take them.

Ever travel or been in a hotel? They rarely take the coin.

I used to get one of the Sacajewa coins every week in my paycheck. They called it a "Safety Award"...I ended up with quite a stack of them. Spent them on "special occasions", like at the casino, or in Hawaii for some trinket/souvenir. Otherwise, they are just a PITA to deal with. Now, they're releasing a new $1 coin...

I hate coins... way too heavy and they clink together in your pocket as you walk.

how can I be stealthy with $50 in coinage in my pocket? 😛

This is the part that gets me. It's either that, or they think they are quarters. I had 6 dollar coins once and tried to pay at a drive through with them just to get rid of them. The lady at the window went, "Sorry, the total was $5.83 and you only gave me a $1.50."
