Your need to duh-vert is unusually strong.

WTF does immigration have to do with MJ legalization, anyway?

Holder merely acknowledges the obvious, that fair & honest MJ enforcement is impossible & has been for a long time. W/O the assistance of state & local authorities, it's now totally hopeless. With states now seeking tax revenue from MJ, the Federal position is totally absurd & counter productive wrt other aspects of drug enforcement.

It has to do with Obama undermining the rule of law. And the absurdity of Obama decrying states for enforcing federal laws, and turning the other cheek when they go against them.

Its also a good laugh that you are complaining that enforcing drug laws is hopeless W/O state and local authorities and Obama also saying he doesn't want state state help with enforcing immigration laws.

Laws against its use never were honest or reasonable, but rather a product of fear mongering & racism.

So only black people use drugs? :hmm:

How is it racism?

None of this changes the federal stance on marijuana use by federal employees, federal contractors/suppliers, DOT (CHL & pipeline), and many other companies/jobs that federal government requires drug screening.

Wow! Dear Leader is doing that? The numbers are accurate? Aren't manipulated, cooked, or have estimates wildly inaccurate? The economy didn't tank and they're going back themselves? The number is down to zero instead of tens of thousands per year? Millions don't remain?

Sweet. I really stand corrected, zinger, you got me there... 🙄

yes yes, it's easy to believe what you want when you can just ignore data and discard it as "made up" whenever it rejects your core belief structure.

the true sign of a simple person.

I like how they have those pictures of these loser people trying to smoke pipes and joints and bongs. Could they make people look any more of a loser or what?

Take away the hocus-pocus, and it is clear the Obama administration is neglecting to enforce immigration laws. The administration has all but abandoned worksite enforcement actions. Over the past two years, worksite enforcement has plummeted 70 percent.

Under this administration, there have been fewer arrests of illegal workers, fewer criminal arrests, fewer indictments and fewer convictions. This means illegal workers continue to take jobs away from unemployed Americans.

It's like they cling so badly to the hype that is Obama doing something significantly positive regarding the illegal invasion they'll overlook Reality no matter what.

Whoops, I wonder how accurate the stoppage reports are when they don't even know how many are really coming across...

It'd be funny how the most technologically advanced, greatest military power, country the world has ever known willingly fails to secure its own border from invasion if it wasn't a Reality. But hey, 'Bummers doing something about it...Rejoice...

Yes, my question is why you are citing an opinion piece written by a republican Congressman accusing the administration of cooking the books on immigration.

The issue is disputed. You can read the WP piece which the Congressman was likely referring to in his op-ed here:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...2/05/AR2010120503230.html?sid=ST2010120503239

The main issue so far as "cooking books" seems to be at the end of 2011, the administration was close to breaking its deportation record from the previous year and they made a last minute push to up the numbers, so the ICE asked some immigrants who were in the system awaiting hearings to voluntarily leave rather than face the hearing which would have put off the deportation to the following year. Yeah, that's real "cooking of books" for you. A typical republican attempt to elevate nothing into something.

Great news for us here in WA. Next we need to figure out the taxation of it, and how to certify growers.

Hopefully this announcement will embolden the other states that are on the cusp of legalizing in their next elections. Once a certain number of states have legalized, a critical amount of momentum will be realized and it will then only be a matter of time until it is legal in all states.

We also need the DEA to de-schedule marijuana as well, why they have that power alone is crazy.

In your world it's black and white, to everyone else it isn't.

Let's back up a bit. When it was the NSA it was not Obama's fault and "nullification is wrong" when someone else didn't like Obama's laws, but he's decided to not act on the law. Hey I'm fine with this but from others I really don't want to hear complaints.

I was under the (mistaken?) impression that the DEA had the power to set the schedule of drugs. Am I wrong, and that power is congresses?

The Controlled Substances Act of 1970 created the initial list and either the DEA or FDA can change the schedule of a drug. The problem is that they are also not entirely free to do as they will in such a situation. The DEA is part of Justice and Justice answers to you-know-who, and for all this seemingly magnanimous behavior has no interest in changing this in a real and significant way.

Congress created the beast and can of course decriminalize, but if the head of DEA were to change MJ to a non controlled substance both Congress and Obama would have his head and put things as they were.

Standard false equivalency.

States are under no obligation to conform to federal drug laws, nor do they have the power to enforce them. If the feds choose to enforce federal marijuana laws on their own in Washington & Colorado, they're free to do so.

Obviously, they have better sense, certainly better sense than you do.

If Congress wants antiquated, arbitrary & absurd law to be enforced, they can impeach Obama & Biden, make Boehner president. Short of that, they and you are pissing into the wind of righteous social change, change for the better.

Might want to sell your CCA stock, too. A little birdie told me that earnings may be down, way down, particularly in the long run.

I don't know why you are quoting me unless you just felt like giving an example of how the world isn't black or white.

Yeah, I'm not picking on you. My point is that we have those who say black or white or not unless it's advantageous to say it's not. Haven't seen whom I'm thinking of yet but you'll know 😀

Some questions require an either/or answer. Only a choice.

This is one of them. Obama chose wisely.

He just upped the ante with congress, state govts & even MJ activists, put the gun to their head, he did. And he made it look like some sort of capitulation to States' Rights, when it's really rocket fuel for legalization everywhere.

Go ahead- if you legalize it, tax it & control it, we won't get in the way. With that, he abandoned the war on marijuana. By 2017, it'll be way too late to go back.

It's all over but for the sputtering. It's actually an amazing political coup that will energize the traditional liberal base & bring more young voters to Democrats in general. Social conservatives are way, way at the losing end of this.

What's interesting is that Obama is free from pursuing the execution of the law in this case but bound to it in such things as the NSA. I find that marvelous. Do liberals embrace the loss of privacy or bullying governments to get Snowden? In either case the perspective chosen was the one which makes Obama look best.

Now instead of ignoring the former issue of MJ why doesn't he as the head of the executive branch havethe DEA take MJ of the controlled scheduled list, which it has the legal authority to do? Because that might upset conservatives? I would approve of this BTW.

How comfortably bold He is.

It's crazy! It's as if he is using his power to enforce the laws he agrees with while also using the power granted to him to not use resources to enforce laws he doesn't agree with. I'm sure that that has never been done by any other president, ever!

I just don't understand why someone with such powers wouldn't do the opposite of what they agree with. It's not like the republicans in congress use the powers granted to them to achieve their political goals. Nope, they do what's right even though it goes against what they believe in and they certainly don't "abuse" the power granted to them in the same way Obama "abuses" his power. If the republicans were doing that I'm sure those on the right would be condemning them and since that's not happening then we know for sure the republicans aren't abusing their powers.
