Basically, someone dumped a tons of cats/kittens off at my nearest convenience store. I worry about them getting run over. I've taken a few of them from there, and one even lives in my parents back yard and never leaves...it has a great life now. Do you think I'm doing the right thing by snatching them up and moving them to my neighborhood where myself and the bazillion old folk feed them constantly? Note: Everytime I grab one, I get bloody, they freak out, understandably. I just deal with the blood for the sake of giving them a chance, I guess. I'm a major cat lover :) Its still hurts though...cats bite HARD, lol.

Edit: I'm still bleeding. This is actually the brother/sister of the one living the good life at my parent's house. He/She bites freakin' HARD! lol I'm just sad that I scared her/him that much. They don't know.

That's a reasonable course of action I guess. It would be better to put them in homes, but suburbia beats the street if those are the choices.

Yeah, pretty much its run over in a parking lot or feeding them in my neighborhood. Which would any nice person choose? I don't mind the bites/scratches...I know they're just scared. Still hurts like a motherfxcker though, lol :)

If nothing else, it'll get them viewed by a sympathetic audience. The biggest concern I'd have is getting too big a feral cat population. Wild/semi wild cats are fine, but too many is too many.

I completely understand what you're attempting to do but I still can't see how dumping them in a better neighborhood really helps anything. They're still technically stray.

Now, I've never tried this but couldn't you just take them to a no-kill shelter?

Ahh. That makes more sense then...

Still not sure I could be bothered though. Just out of curiosity, how old are you?

30. Cat lover. Adopter from No-Kill and the streets. Just got off the phone with local activists about establishing a No-Kill shelter here. I hope we can get it done.

It'd be great if you could make that happen. Props for looking into it.

I wouldn't have any problem taking a cat off the street if I wanted another (I have 2 already from a friend who's cat wound up pregnant).

So you are dumping stray cats in neighborhoods and now making them other people's problems? Damn, I understand your misguided passion for animals as I am an animal lover too but stray cats are a PROBLEM. I have had tons of problems with stray cats over the years and the only solution is to kill them. Please don't bring any here as I am getting too old to kill them with a clean conscience anymore.....but that won't stop me.

Dump them in my yard and they will die. You just don't understand much do you? Typical misguided liberal thinking he is saving the world. How about you put your energy into spay/neuter activities to stop so many strays. You are fighting a never ending battle and it is kind of funny how you think inconveniencing people by dumping stray cats in their neighborhood is fine because kitty is more important. It is also ironic that by maintaining herds of fertile strays you are just exacerbating the problem. I will clue you in....strays do damage to property. If they damage my property I take care of the problem.

What are you helping by doing that?

Look, I love cats and own two now that were adopted but, are you fucking nuts? Encouraging strays only encourages disease and more cats. If you can't bring yourself to take them to the humane society, then pay to have them spayed/neutered at the minimum! What the hell are you going to tell your neighbor who owns a pet that gets a disease from on of your stray's? "Ooh, they're so cute! I just couldn't take them to the pound. Sorry, about your kitty and the hundreds of dollars you spent trying to save her."

He is just like the government with welfare. He thinks he is helping but now instead of going out and hunting for a living the strays now simply hang around waiting for Uncle Sugar's handout. Now that they have the sweet easy life with nice places to breed they just make more strays....which Uncle Sugar is happy to feed. Cycle goes on and on and on....

On one hand I actually think its a great idea, on the other hand you'd be doing all involved a favor if you could work something out with local vets to get strays spayed/neutered, atleast the ones that are old enough, and adopt out the kittens (and then relocate the adults if necessary.)

Tell me about it. We had one feral cat hanging around here a couple years ago. Now there are seven and we just managed to get the four kittens one had away from her and taken to the no kill shelter where my mom volunteers. Of the seven old enough to breed, we've only been able to catch three and get them neutered/spayed. Hopefully we can get the rest as this is starting to become a problem.

Don't just dump the animals from one neighborhood to another, at the very least get them fixed first otherwise you're going to have one hell of a problem coming.

You're just moving the problem from the convenience store to the neighborhood where you dump them. If they're feral cats, they're unlikely to become domesticated, are most likely going to cause problems with the neighborhood cat population, (people's housecats that are allowed to roam) and you MIGHT be breaking the law.

Are you sure someone dumped them off, or might they be part of the wild/feral cat population around the store?

I'm an animal lover and a cat lover...but I certainly don't want them here. We get enough misguided assholes dumping cats and kittens. It gets to be a PITA to trap them and take them to the pound...and it's NOT a no-kill shelter, so the're not going to last long there.

I would hate a neighbor like you. You're moving feral cats into a neighborhood and not even bothering to spay/neuter them? You should be taking them to a shelter, all you are doing is making the problem worse by stimulating the feral cat population, providing them with better food sources, and putting the problem into the laps of other people who shouldn't have to deal with it. Christ, the fact that you feed them is bad enough.
