I tried to install a new hsf and well things didn't turn out so well. First I got it installed and a couple of times my screwdriver slipped but there was no visible damage. So the first time I try to boot up, I just got nothing but beeps and it shut right back off. So i reinstalled the hsf and the first time I turned it on aain I got no beeps at all but the computer would just shut right back off. So I tried to turn it back on and now the damn thing is completely dead. Nothing powers on at all. As you can imagine I'm very pissed. Any idea what's up?

God damn I'm such a fcking idiot. :brokenheart:

yea the fan started. too bad too, it's a really quiet fan. oh and my motherboard is the abit kt7a. I don't even know what the hell the beeps codes meant, I no longer have the manual. From what I can tell the processor didn't have any physical damage...

well i tried to boot without the cpu...still nothing. I guess that means the mobo is dead. also looking at the processor, it appears as though a very small part of the die chipped off, i guess enough to ruin it. I guess the good news is that i just ordered a new motherboard the other day. Still I'll be without a pc for a few weeks I guess. That sucks. :(

Guess you got a Zalman fan? You may not have killed the motherboard, maybe just the processor. I know that if you don't insert a processor on many boards, you will get no power, no boot. The beep codes (for a while) were a good sign that the board was still working (at least then).

I would try the processor in another machine to see if it still works. My guess would be that the processor wasn't seated correctly and caused damage to it.
