So, i have been trying FOREVER to get the sound working on my old computer. I used to have a SB Live in it, but when the sound card on my other computer went up that had 4.1 Speakers i had to have something other than onboard so i toted that card into the newer PC.
I planned on using the onboard for my headphones in the older PC, but i could not get it working for the life of me. I tried installing a bunch of different drivers, i tore my house apart looking for the orginal CD for the sound drivers and installed them, and nothing seemed to work!
I tried having device manager search for new devices but still to no avail. After weeks of tinkering with the sound off and on, i finnaly thought of something.
When i installed the soundcard - i disabled the onboard in the BIOS! haha i went into the BIOS and sure enough the AC '97 was disabled. Who knows how long and frustrating a time i spent on this thing - and it was disabled the whole time - no wonder! doh!
I'm sure we've all had something like this.
