Just pay American call-center workers less than minimum wage, and make them work for "tips". :D

The operation has not meant a loss of jobs for U.S. workers, Sarkar said. She said HP had contracts with customer support companies in India before the decision to bring tasks "in-house."

Now that's funny. I bet all the people that used to work at the helpdesk in Marlborough would disagree.

To be truthful, we saw this coming 4 years ago when Compaq bought Digital. It's been a long downhill slide ever since.

LOL...
I read an article about 2 months ago about Indian call centers. The majority of these Indian call center workers have an advanced college degree. In india, a call-center job after graduation is something to be proud of and demands respect even if the pay is not stellar. That's why they know their stuff and are keen to help, but it's a shame about the language/accent barrier. Over here, in the US, call-center jobs or tech-support are highly undesirable to most new grads out there. It's mostly a last resort job, am I right?
It will just be interesting to see what Indian culture is doing about it. They know about the accent problem. I wouldn't be surprised if parents are beginning to speak English in the house more, or exposing their kids to more American TV from when they are young. Once that barrier is conquered... watch out!

I posted about this in P&N on January 8. HP makes great printers, acceptable scanners, and terrible computers (both HP and Compaq). They're all on my do not buy list, now. I'll miss the printers. The rest of it doesn't matter.

These idiots don't realize the real cost of shipping jobs offshore. They can save money in the short term, but the costs of creating an entirely new impoverished group of formerly employed Americans will compond the downstream costs and misery caused by Bush's deficits.

Sorry to get political in OT, but this is where the thread is, and those are the facts. :disgust:

Why are you mad? India needs the jobs more than we do. Do you have any idea how bad the economic situation there is?? Meanwhile, you, a citizen of the richest nation in the world, are bitching about a few low paying jobs leaving. How can you be that selfish?

Yeah and some people in India need them. Boo hoo. If you hate capitalism so much, vote for the socialist party.
