The pic of Elon carrying a sink when he just bought twitter explains it all to me

A man the makes 1000s per hour is going to do a job that a person who makes 30-40 per hour

I find that crazy inefficient

But he wants to run doge

Great

I keep seeing this thread pop up and I keep thinking of the adorable doge or dogecoin.

Can’t say I’m upset about cutting taxpayer funded services to rural America though. I’m sick of subsidizing them. Let them pay starlink or whatever with their own money for all I care.
I work for a a private ISP, no shareholders. My nephew in law thinks he NEEDS 50M upload to stream to Twitch or he cannot work. LOL. I have ran sessions on his modem, he needs less than ten. My company is trying to bring D4.0 and symmetrical DOCSIS to rural people. But we are a cable co, not eligible for the CHIPS act, where the Telco is, and ran almost fiber to the home. Except as far as we reach. They only wanted the businesses.

Now I can say, let my nephew in law TRY for Starlink, I think it would be funny. But when you cannot convince someone they don't need 50M upload for livestreaming Twitch. I am done.

EDIT: Don't worry, my co. isn't getting taxpayer money. We are not a utility.
DBL EDIT correct a word

From a couple of weeks ago they were also looking at ending remote work for civil servants in the hopes that it would drive a number of folks to quit.

Work from home is very smart. It cuts down on fossil fuel use, reduces traffic accidents and reduces worker stress levels, benefiting healthcare costs.

However showing up to the office at least once a week to collaborate spontaneously does have some benefit.

Jmho. ⛷️🏋‍♀️🤼‍♀️

I remember when we first started spending billions on rural broadband....back in the 1990s! Here we are now 30 years later still dumping billions into it.

No shit. Delivering infrastructure services to far flung communities and homes is expensive. The same happens in sprawling suburbs: more expensive services and infrastructure per capita.

It doesn't help that the government did not hold ISPs feet to the fire when it came to fulfilling their obligations. For the money we've spent, we should have probably had a national fiber network at this point

And everyone of us has been paying for it with extra charges (fees, taxes) supposedly dedicated to that purpose. Someone's been pocketing it from the absolute lack of progress that I've seen. Two miles from me, you still have to get a satellite, 20 miles as a crow flies lies Seattle.

What, you CAN'T find 2 Trillion to save!?! Maybe you might find half that!?!

Who woulda thunk it? More back tracking on election promises by the new administration before they even start.

He does go on to say they can try to aim for half of that, which is still a substantial figure.

I'm not expecting them to deliver on their promises, but it will be fun exposing all of the government waste. Sometimes an endeavor like this isn't designed necessarily to deliver results, but to generate enough public outcry and political capital for change down the line. We'll see.

Except DOGE isn't going to try and find corruption and wasteful spending. All they're really going to do is recommend that a bunch of programs the conservatives don't like to be killed, irrespective of how efficient or worthy those programs are. That and alter government spending so as much as possible flows into the pockets of Musk, Vivek, and other Trump crony billionaires.

Yeah there definitely will be some of that. Every administration funnels money towards pet projects and away from things they don't like. But we'll finally pull the curtains back on this government apparatus and see the real price tags.
