I just brought a dog home from the shelter, my first dog.

I was picturing getting a military style stamped oval dog tag for her. The pet stores I've gone to only have heart shaped and bone shaped tags that get engraved. They seem kinda lame...

Not that I had my heart totally set on regular dog tags, but I never guessed that they came in all cutsie shapes with no regular ones.

What does everyone else do?

Both my dogs have tags from the machine at Petco stores. Custom engraved while you wait - 4 styles (nothing too fancy)

I've always gone with normal pet tags because military style tags are long enough for the average dog to grab with their mouth and mangle ;)

I got one online that was really cool - it actually latches around her collar, so that there is almost no chance of the tag coming off - unless the whole collar goes with it. Was DEFINITELY worth the $$ and everyone that sees it notices. (and it has room for her name + my name and address)

Will update with URL when I find it.

Edit: Here you go - Boomerang Tags. The one I got was the one on the bottom-left. It is stainless, looks brand new a year later. It arrived quickly and was WELL worth the $7.50.

I've never tagged my dog, she looks cute without anything on her. :)
Well, her harnest looks really good on her, she's pretty built.
