Shows that animals do have emotions, to put their own life at risk to save a human friend.

You are kidding right? Dogs are pack animals. This includes a certain mindset with very interesting traits.

And yet it's PC to keep the "poor little cougars" alive. Granted this was not in a city but whenever you hear about cougars attacking joggers and the lack of action taken to kill the animal, just remember - environmentalists and PETA people value cougar lives above those of humans!
