Dog perimeter restriant suggestions please (neighbors want him shot)

I have a 3 3 1/2 year old male mixed breed golden retriever that has been going to our neighbors property.

I live in the country and have about 20 acres of property 80% of which is wooded area.

3 neighbors live about 1/2 a mile away.

My dog is the only dog in my family and is way too friendly.

I got a call from my neighbor that the dog has been giong to there property and has been peeing all over there property.

I dont have him restrained and have a dog door in the garage. and he usually chases off racoons skunks and other criiters at night.

For now I am forced to tie him up until I figure out how to keep him within my property.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Is there a electric collar device that goes off if he strays away to much from my property?

I think our property is too big to surround with the conventional electric fence.

He has always been a free dog and the thought off tying up saddens me.

please offer suggestions

Yes, you can get an electric collar without putting in a fence. My friend has it for his condo.... the receiver stays somewhere inside the house and the dog can only go so far without being shocked.

Yes he chases deer off our property ( I know he should not but I kind of like this as it decreases the number of deer ticks)

We are actually thinking of making him an indoor dog but he is really furry and the wifey is sort of resitant to this idea.

I saw this electric collar but its $250

Thanks for suggestions

$250, the cost of fencing in your property or your dog getting shot?

Don't know what do do about the dog, other than the shock collar, but what's the big deal about chasing deer off?

Edit: Just found this:

Dogs, cars cause problems for deer populations
  • Another serious problem involves dogs running uncontrolled in the woods. Each year domestic dogs kill deer throughout New Brunswick. Deer face many natural hardships and challenges, but this is something people can do something about. People who don't properly confine their dogs can be charged and fined $300. DNRE has the authority to destroy dogs found running at large in the forests. Dogs running at large should be reported to the nearest DNRE office.
Oh brother.

The deer have it so bad. Who are their natural enemies? Wolves? We killed all of them. That's why we're overrun with deer! The DNRE ought to be shooting deer instead!

You feel bad tying him up, but you'll put something on him to send an electrical shock through him if he goes beyond a point?

I like how the site says "...he receives a mild correction until he returns..." I say if you do that, you wear the collar first to know what it feels like.

you have to do something and quick, you know what people do to dogs that run deer...those collars work, my aunt had one on her terrier...just make sure you show him the area to where it will shock him so he learns

They learn not to keep running...

Found what I need "instant fence" Retails for around $250

Currently bidding on a used one in EBAY for $100

Kind of works like the movie "wedlock" Rutger Hauer, basic principle is there is a transmiter that sends a signal max radius 90 feet.
If the dog goes beyond the perimeter the signal is lost and he gets a beep then a shock.

My only reservation is the max radius is only 90 feet. I wanted him to be able to go to the woods to do his bussines and not on the lawn.
A extra transmitter to extend the signal (FM) cost $180.

I may be asking you guys for help on how to boost the FM signal more practically

I think this is more humane than keeping him in a small cage or tied to a tree the whole day

peace

Couldn't you just train him not to go past a certain point? I know my neihgbour's dog is trained not to go on teh road and in their house, its trained not to go in teh bedroom or kitchen.

It hurts like hell. I have one on my dog and I did try it first 🙂. I have the kind the uses the wire and I have a real chain link fence to back it up or I don't think it would have worked. He is a lot happier with the collar than he was chained up.

Is he neutered?

no he is not neutered

Training him to stay within the property is kind of difficult as he has been used to roaming around for the past 3 years.

I cant even train him to stop jumping on me (very happy dog)

Does neutering really help?
