I installed a webcam in my house to view from work and found that he sleeps all day on the sofa.

They both sleep on the couch the whole time.

One is 5 years old and when he was a puppy we just locked him in a kennel.

$35 a DAY? jesus. ours just sleeps in her crate til I get home. Usually only about 6 hours or so between when my wife goes to work and I get home in the afternoon.

jesus christ.. that's almost as much as my mortgage payment.

that's why I only took him to daycare when he was a puppy.

He's good in the crate for up to 12 hours these days, although we try to limit that to 8 hours max.

Occasionally when we're gone for the whole day we'll send him to daycare anyway; coming home to a tired, exhausted dog is priceless.

My dogs stay in the house by themselves for the the entire day while we are away at work. That can be anywhere from 8-10 hours. They are both adults and were trained not to mess in the house when they were puppies. They do fine. It is their house too so they don't want to mess it up. They spend all damn day on one of the beds anyway.

you put your dog in day care?

seriously?

day care? /facepalm

my parents dog (who's basically my dog except I can't have dogs in my apartment... he's coming with me when I move into my aunt's house this summer, though) spends most of the afternoon sleeping and walking around the house. they fill his food/water bowls, close the basement door, and leave the house.

Pretty much EVERYONE at work has their dog in day care unless they're bringing them. I can't really imagine that. Paying a neighbor kid to come let her out and do a quick walk maybe, but doggie day care...

When left at home, they are locked in the laundry room, but usually not for more than 3-4 hours at a time. Currently, they are working on eating all the baseboards.

We will eventually put in a dog-run and doggie door so they can come and "go" as they please when we are not around.

the only thing more ridiculous than doggy day care is bringing them to work with you every day.

My girl is a shelter dog and has socialization problems with other dogs and people. She loves playing with other dogs, but is hyperactive and gets stressed/aggressive easily. She can't go to the dog park because she can't handle meeting some kinds of dogs. So, she goes to day care 1) for 8+ hours of exercise a couple days a week, and 2) so she can be as social with other dogs as possible and improve those skills.

When I first got her and started going to the dog park she went about 6 times, and there were problems with other dogs 3 of those times. Since then I've taken her to day care for the last 3 months and she has only had one scuffle, which according to the staff was not her fault.

hi. what breed do you have?

Hard to say b/c she was a rescue from the pound, but some combination of Shih Tzu and other stuff (very possibly Lhasa Apso). Shih Tzu were bred as companion/lap dogs (as opposed to working dogs like terriers, retrievers, etc) and mine definitely fits that bill.

That can all be fixed, you need to start watching The Dog Whisperer.

While I don't bring my dog to work today, our work is well set up for it. People have dog beds and baby gates in their cubes/offices, we have a dog run area outside and people usually go out around noon for a dog playtime. Better on the animals than leaving them home locked up, lowers everyone's stress level and best of all is a great selling point for recruiting.
