Three dog meat lovers are facing an 80-million-won (US$70,000) lawsuit after cooking and eating their employer?s pedigree dog.
On Sunday, the three men in their 50s who work at a rental car shop in Seoul took their employer?s two-year-old Chindo dog to a nearby valley, killed her and ate her.
The owner of the dog, identified as Lee, 62, discovered his dog missing from the parking lot where she was normally tied up and could see only blood. Lee then remembered the three had often joked about serving up the dog for dinner, and reported the matter to the police.
However, his employees had already eaten the dog in a traditional Korean dog soup, or posintang.
To the dog-devourers? shock, the dog was found to be a thoroughbred Chindo with five generations of purebred heritage authenticated by a national organization.
``I raised Chanmi (the dog?s name) like my own child, and put her there for breeding,?? Lee cried out.
``Chanmi is the best even among thoroughbreds. I thought her price may be around 10 million won, but when I asked after her death, the Korean Chindo Dog Association estimated her to be worth 70-80 million won,?? Lee insisted.
The police sought an arrest warrant for the three, but it was rejected. However, Lee said he would file a civil suit to get the money back.
