Mona was in bad shape with a swollen stomach that had begun to twist around.
In questioning staff I was told that this is something that can occur quickly, and although stress and other factors could have contributed, the incident was due to some ingested material. My phone was low on battery so I finally got them to tell me, bar none, what was the most critical action at that time. They described the stomach pumping process (treat and wait) so I gave them approval.

Once I got there they had the proposed procedure (exploratory surgery and surgery to secure her stomach in the proper orientation if still possible) estimate and it was approaching $10k. On this short notice I was not able to come up with that much and we feared the worst - I only had enough for the emergency visit.

So the docs did what they could and got her stable and will monitor her until morning.
We got to see her and it was tough seeing her in the cage with the upside lampshade collar and obviously traumatized. She was definitely herself though as she was whimpering but quieted down as I softly told her to calm down and lie back down. walking away from her was tough.

I don't know how much the surgery costs at a non-emergency rate but if it is anything else close to this I will not be able to afford it. I did ask the fee for euthenizing her. if she wasn't going to make it I didn't want her to be in pain for long even if this were to happen at a later time. The doctor did mention several rescue programs that might be able to help her if we cannot. we'd have to give her up but better that she live on with people that care for her than die for our pride.

sigh. we'll know how she's doing in the morning.

I wish I knew more about biology. the first C I ever got was in biology. some mentioned that perhaps Mona's condition was treatable and could wait up to a day or more for us to negotiate day-time treatment but alas I know very little on the subject and was at their mercy for advice.

I hope she survives this.

update:

update: just got a call from my folks.

She has some sort of blockage in her stomach and is doing poorly.

there is now no money to save her.

going from work to the vet right now.

sigh.

update:

:)

She's lying next to me here at home.

I read the vet's report and it looks like she started slowly recovering at around 4am.
This morning however found her with more problems including a swollen stomach, and from what I had heard, she was a goner. When my mother and I got to the vet (I thought she had been at the vet but had only spoken to them over the phone, we were surprised to see that she was walking about. She was really happy to see us:) We were told that at this point all that was left was to take her home, and hope that she would calm down enough to pull through,

She hadn't gone to the bathroom having been fed earlier so we took her outside while still at the vet. I have never been so glad to see her go #1. she must have gone for a full minute:p which was a good sign.

As of right now she has been very lethargic and resting. She has gone #1 twice though but no #2.

We are hoping that the comfort of being at home with family will be enough to help her pull through some how. If not, well...

update:

She ate diner! :)

Let's hope she goes no. 2 and does not vomit:(

update:

she went number 2 ! It apparently hit her quickly since she took a dump in the middle of the road as were crossing it :Q  :frown:

It's all good though:D

Hopefully she continues to improve:)

update:

She seems to be doing better and thank you for the support.

She's been quite playful this afternoon and into the evening which brought back the smiles in the household.:)

got called from the vet - her stomach turned and is also bloated.

only way to fix it is to either perform surgery or euthanize

It sounds like they did more then feed it pringles, also are they not going to help with the bill since their kids did this?

I have no fucking clue and don't give a fuck right now. They are family, but they just brought up the price right now.

That sucks man. Are there any unorthodox remedies you could try? If you can't afford $7,000, anything would be worth a shot.

Anyway, I hope your doggy makes out ok :^(

:( Really sorry to hear that. Despite what some here may think the death of a pet can rank up there with the death of a loved one.

It could be just pringles. Bloat is caused by overeating a lot of the time, particularly in larger dogs.

Sorry to hear that Goosemaster :(

I'm sorry to hear of both the dog's problem and the stress on you..

'I'm from the side that pets can be just like family members. I know when our 17 yr old cocker spaniel died of pretty much old age. For a week it was almost like someone human had died.

Hopefully this will get righted with the least trauma to all and he/she can live long and consume many more appropriate doggie snacks :)

you should seriously tell the family to pay for the surgery. you have to expect people will control their kids.

they let their kids go wild and fed your dog more or less poison. if they dont want to pay, sue them.

its 100% their fault. negligence and probably animal abuse, possibly child abuse for letting the dog and kids on their own. dog for all a court would know could kill a kid by accident and then you will be at fault for the death

What is the medical reason why a dog can't eat a whole can of Pringles?

I'm guessing that it's either a smaller dog, or that they fed it more than Pringles.
